Greetings from the Virginia Beach Sportsplex, site of the Class 6, Region A semifinals where the #3 seed Oscar Smith Tigers (9-2) take on the #2 seed Ocean Lakes Dolphins (10-1).

These teams have met four times since 2008 in the playoffs with the Tigers and Dolphins splitting those meetings. Each time, the winner made it to the State Final with the Tigers capturing the crown in '08 and Ocean Lakes winning its first in '14.

This will make giving updates with time much trickier.

Ocean Lakes goes 3 and out on its first series with a 3rd & 9 pass from QB Xander JEdlick to freshman receiver Myles Alston picking up 5 yards.

Oscar Smith begins at its own 24 after a 36-yard punt.

Ocean Lakes starts its second series with good field position, at the Oscar Smith 47-yard line. But an incomplete pass, then run play for 0 yards (tackles by Horace Sawyer and T.J. Tucker) force the Dolphins to go to the air on 3rd down.

Junior star DB Cam'Ron Kelly - who scooped up Big Ten offers from Michigan State and Wisconsin this week - is there waiting for the pick.

After the takeaway, Ocean Lakes goes backwards, then gets a gain of 6 from now healthy RB Tyler Browning (he was dealing with a bad ankle earlier in the season. But on 3rd & 5 from the Tigers 9, a bad snap results in QB Xander Jedlick diving on the loose ball for a loss of 15.

However, Ocean Lakes strikes first...

That was set up by a couple of nice runs from Khalid Wilson (up to 54 yards on 7 attempts) and Cam Kelly. The Tigers have picked up the tempo the past couple drives, and this time they didn't cough up and took advantage of the opportunity.

Can Ocean Lakes answer before the break now?

Jalen Moore has been applying pressure along with Kyle Thomas up front. Aaron Acevado, albeit small, flies around like a pinball in a machine. He's nearly had an INT on two different pass plays in this first half.

So instead of advancing the ball and having a chance to score, Ocean Lakes quickly goes 3 and out, burning up a minute on the clock.

A couple of false start penalties pushed Ocean Lakes back on the punt, so Oscar Smith takes over at the Dolphins 31-yard line after a 8-yard punt return from Cam Kelly.

That was set up by a couple of grabs from Kenny Etheridge netting 11 yards and a rush of 8 yards from Keyon Watson.

A pretty solid first half from Tigers QB Dominique Brooks - 8 of 12 for 123 yards and a touchdown strike. Etheridge has become his go-to guy tonight with 5 receptions for 72 yards and the game's lone touchdown so far.

More numbers to come in a bit... stay tuned.

Some Stats at the break...

Oscar Smith 10:
Dominique Brooks - 8 of 12 for 123Yds. 1-0TD/Int. ratio, fumble lost
Khalid Wilson - 7Car. 54Yds.
Cam Kelly - 3Car. 15Yds; 1Rec. 20Yds; INT
Kenny Etheridge - 5Rec. 72Yds. TD
Horace Sawyer - 7 Tackles (2 Solo)

Tigers - 27 plays for 181 total yards (8 of 12 for 123 pass yards; 15 runs for 58 yards); 3 turnovers; 2 penalties for 15 yards

Ocean Lakes 3:
Xander Jedlick - 5-10 for 53Yds. 0-1TD/Int. ratio
Tyler Browning - 6Car. 24Yds.
Vinny Jarvis - 1Rec. 31Yds.
Jaleel Powell - 6 Tackles (4 Solo), TFL
Jaccob Jones - 2 Fumble Recoveries

Dolphins - 24 plays for 59 total yards (5 of 10 for 53 pass yards; 14 runs for 6 yards); 1 turnover on INT; 3 penalties for 15 yards

Oscar Smith goes 3 and out on their first series of the half as Ocean Lakes tries an onside to begin the half. But the Dolphins did a good job in pass coverage to prevent the big play.

Then the Dolphins get one that they hope will ignite an offense that has been stuck in neutral most of the night.

The Ocean Lakes offense get bailed out on that penalty on the Tigers defense, otherwise Smith would've taken over. Joe Jones and his Dolphins know they badly need to get this to pay off with points. This offense has not been held under 20 points all season long - or without a touchdown for this long in a game - until tonight.

3 is better than 0. Even though Ocean Lakes would've liked a touchdown there, they'll take it as it gives them a little bit of a boost. This one is playing out similarly to the 2012 regional title game between the Tigers and Dolphins in which Ocean Lakes won with defense, a late takeaway and a score in the fourth quarter.

Dolphins DC Chris Ramey was on that staff and remembers it well. He's hoping for the same outcome tonight.

Oscar Smith can really start to gain some separation if it finishes this drive off with a touchdown. A field goal doesn't force Ocean Lakes to abandon the run and throw. Unfortunately for the Tigers, a holding penalty takes them out of the red zone.

Oscar Smith feeds off emotion and momentum better than most in Virginia. They're clicking now as they force a 3 and out by the Ocean Lakes offense. Dolphins, once up 3-0 in this game and suddenly trailing by 18, punting it back.

Give the Oscar Smith o-line credit in run blocking against this large Ocean Lakes defensive front, led by Georgia commit Jaevon Becton at d-end.

From left to right - Omega Williams, William Daniel, Isaiah Mayes, Nidavion Toxey and James Collins have held their own for the Tigers.

This one looks over. Oscar Smith's offensive explosion will get a lot of the attention, but can't stress enough the 2 INT's by the secondary - one each by Cam Kelly and Marrio Smith - and how they've bottled up an Ocean Lakes offense that hadn't been held under 20 points until tonight.
