LIVE Updates - Oscar Smith (8-1) at King's Fork (8-1)

King's Fork 3 and out on its first possession that began at their own 20 after the touchback.

A big-time hit on the first pass attempt as Kyle Thomas, the enforcer at DT for the Tigers, came breathing down on Bulldogs QB Justin German. Cam'Ron Kelly, the talented junior DB for the Tigers, had a couple of tackles. One of which came on 4th & 4 from their own 26 when the Bulldogs ended up losing a couple of yards.

Couldn't tell on that punt attempt if it was a pure fake or the snap was bad and Bryan Walker decided to take off on his own accord. At any event, Oscar Smith will start at the King's Fork 24 with 10:30 to go in the first quarter.

Not a good sign for the King's Fork offense on a bad snap on 3rd down. German gets hit in the end zone after diving on it... it's a good thing he did get on it because otherwise the Tigers could've recovered for a TD.

Oscar Smith begins its second possession after the safety at their own 45-yard line with 6:08 to go in the opening period.

That front four on the d-line for King's Fork - ends Sam Dunn and Dennis Whitehead along with tacles Tresyhaun Mitchell and Jayree Hardy - are causing issues. A sack by Whitehead, followed by tackles for loss from LB Bryan Walker, puts the Tigers in 3rd and long.

Oscar Smith pass intended for Cam Kelly is incomplete. That means the Tigers are 0 for 3 so far through the air and have minus 9 yards of offense on two possessions. But they lead it 2-0 as they punt it away to King's Fork, which has minus 18 yards.

As good as the King's Fork d-line is, their offensive line is having trouble blocking Kyle Thomas and company. The Bulldogs go 3 and out, but on 3rd down had a potential big play down the field on a nice throw by QB Justin German. WR Bobby Boone was unable to haul it in though.

It looked like almost the same TD that German and Boone hooked up for a week ago against Deep Creek - a basic deep post, except it appeared to me if I remember correctly they had Boone on the other side of the play last Friday night.

King's Fork begins its fourth series at their own 43-yard line with an 8-yard QB keeper by Justin German into Oscar Smith territory. The Tigers clamp down well on RB Darran Butts for 0 yards on 2nd down.

On 3rd & 2, it appeared a holding or pass interference penalty may get called on the Oscar Smith defense. However, the pass was tipped - and nearly picked off - by Cam Kelly. King's Fork punts it away.

Oscar Smith starts its fourth series at their own 31-yard line with 53 seconds to go in the opening quarter.

On 3rd & 21 - Oscar Smith QB Dominique Brooks finds his big-play receiver Shy'keem Hussey for a gain off 44 yards on a deep shot down the field. The defender playing him didn't do a great job covering the man or the ball in flight or he could've prevented the big connection.

Brooks was just 1 of 7 for 4 yards prior to that play. Sam Dunn comes up with a sack on 2nd & 3 - the 3rd sack of the half for the Bulldogs. However, on 3rd & 7 from the King's Fork 33-yard line, Brooks shows his athleticism and escapes a couple of potential tackles for a gain of 7 to move the chains.

That Oscar Smith defense does a great job of holding yet again. King's Fork tries a fake punt (this time, I'm pretty sure it was a fake unlike the other one) and Bryan Walker gains 7 on 4th & 16 from the Tigers 32.

So Oscar Smith takes over at their own 25 with a 2-0 lead with 5:11 before the break.

A pitch on first down loses 3 yards, then Oscar Smith gains 8 on the next play on a quick pass. On 3rd & 5, the King's Fork defense gets great penetration and drops the Tigers for a loss of 2.

King's Fork can't ask for much more from its defense tonight. The Bulldogs take over with 2:53 before the break at their own 39 and if they can put together a scoring drive, it would be huge momentum going to the half.

King's Fork is in the midst of a nice drive here as Darran Butts rips off runs of 14 and 10 yards. He got the corner on the first run and if not for a tackle by LB Horace Sawyer, he might've had himself a 60-yard TD.

Bulldogs looking at 1st & 10 from the Oscar Smith 30 with a little over a minute to go in the half.

Interesting to see what happens here with King's Fork having all 3 time-outs and Oscar Smith starting their 6th possession at their own 2-yard line. If they get good push, we could be looking at another safety and a 2-2 pitcher's dual going to intermission...

Some numbers at the break and quick thoughts...

Oscar Smith 2:
Dominique Brooks - 4-14 for 59Yds. 0-1TD/Int. ratio
Shy'keem Hussey - 2Rec. 52Yds.
Khalid Wilson - 8Car. 7Yds.
Cam'Ron Kelly - 1Car. 7Yds; 4 Solo Tackles, TFL

Tigers - 59 total yards on 30 plays (16Car. 0Yds; 4-14 for 59 pass yards); 2 penalties for 15 yards; 1 turnover on an INT

King's Fork 0:
Justin German - 6-11 for 47Yds. 0-1TD/Int. ratio
Darran Butts - 5Car. 32Yds.
Cherrod Joe - 1Rec. 37Yds.
Keimonta Hoggard - 6 Tackles (5 Solo), 1.5TFL, Sack

Bulldogs - 68 total yards on 24 plays (13Car. 21Yds; 6-11 for 47 pass yards); 2 penalties for 10 yards; 1 turnover on an INT

... The Tigers haven't had a dominant running game this season, but the absence of Deangelo White - out due to knee injury - has really shown. White was averaging 7 yards per carry with 647 yards on 92 rushes and 9 touchdowns. He also was a threat to catch the ball out of the backfield.

Smith needs some kind of wrinkle offensively - maybe inserting Cam Kelly in the backfield back at QB and see if his scrambling can create problems. Otherwise, King's Fork is strong enough to hang in this one till the very end as they did a week ago when tying Deep Creek up late and winning in OT.

King's Fork has to capitalize soon though when they get inside the 30 of Oscar Smith. Those opportunities don't come around frequently. A heavier workload for Butts is likely in the 2nd half, and taking a couple of shots with their speedsters on play-action - particularly Boone on Joe - against the smaller DB's in stature of Oscar Smith could yield a big play.

This game really does look like first one to score a TD will win.

Based on this performance, win or lose KF is impressive and will be extremely tough to beat in 4A.

Oscar Smith gets the ball to start the 2nd half and they begin at their own 33 yard line. A nifty catch and run after it by Jarius Howard picks up 6 yards for the Tigers. Then on what looked to be a draw play, RB Khalid Wilson makes a defender or two miss and runs 10 yards. They then move into King's Fork territory on an encroachment penalty by the Bulldogs.

A pass interference that the King's Fork fans definitely did not like on 2nd & 14 on what would've been an incomplete pass puts Oscar Smith at the Bulldogs 40-yard line. The Tigers stay patient and give Shy'keem Hussey the ball on a stop route - pass by QB Dominique Brooks is complete for 15 yards.

Ah, yes. There's the 'wrinkle' we were looking for from the Oscar Smith offense. Why not get a player as talented as Kelly involved in a different way? Great move by HC Scott Johnson, OC Tim Smith and the rest of the Tigers staff. It pays dividends in a major way.

That was followed by a 17-yard run from RB Darran Butts and another late hit penalty on the Tigers. Getting a bit over aggressive are the Tigers on defense. Uncharacteristic of Oscar Smith.

King's Fork now has it 1st & Goal at the Oscar Smith 2.

Well, that changed quickly...

Oscar Smith is going to count on its defense to make another crucial stand. They are fully capable of it, but the Bulldogs can go ahead with a field goal or TD. They've got all the momentum and the home crowd behind them.

Another one-on-one opportunity on the outside and Chris Shearin delivers for King's Fork. He's had two of those lobs go his way. Both he and Cherrod Joe are dangerous on those against the smaller Smith defensive backs. Bobby Boone in space on slants and posts is also a weapon.

Can Oscar Smith's offense now answer? It's time for them to come up with their biggest drive of the season.

King's Fork nearly recovers a fumble by Oscar Smith, but Tigers lineman Trey Sawyer gets on it and saves a disaster. A 5-yard penalty was called by King's Fork after the play (believe it was unsportsmanlike or sideline warning).

On 3rd & 12 from their own 40 - Tigers QB Dominique Brooks hits RB Khalid Wilson on a screen for 13 yards. Just two plays later, it's Brooks throwing a jump-ball and Karon Prunty comes down with it, good for 44 yards. Inside the King's Fork 5 now. More Tigers magic as they try to make it 100 straight in the Southeastern District.

One-on-one right now, he's having his way with the much smaller Oscar Smith defender on him who's only about 5-6, 5-7.

King's Fork goes to Shearin on completions of 40 and 39 yards to get inside the 10. Justin German runs for 5 yards to the 1. Darran Butts finishes off the drive.

Dom Brooks with an intentional grounding penalty for Oscar Smith. That's a 15-yard flag and a loss of down. Followed by Oscar Smith's 11th penalty of the night for 88 yards after a false start. So it's now 2nd & 30 from own 35.

King's Fork leads 21-16 with 6:13 to go.

Screen to Cam Kelly good for 10 yards.

3rd & 20 own 45 now for Oscar Smith. Deep shot for Shy'keem Hussey. It is broken up by DeMarque White (his 2nd pass breakup). King's Fork fans were holding their breath on that one, hoping they wold not get called for their 12th penalty of the night and a pass interference.

Instead, Oscar Smith backs up 15 yards on the unsportsmanlike penalty.
