Follow us tonight with live updates here and through Twitter @ hatfieldsports from John B. Todd Stadium in Newport News as the Heritage Hurricanes take on the Phoebus Phantoms for some rare Tuesday night Peninsula District football action...

Heritage will be trying to re-group from a season-opening loss to Warhill.

End 1stQ - Phoebus 13, Heritage-NN 0

Phoebus has out-gained Heritage 100-28 through one period of play. The Phantoms have 89 yards on the ground on 9 carries with Daniel Wright and Daequan Fleming doing most of the work. Heritage has 7 rushes for 15 yards with 2 completions out of 3 attempts for 13 yards.

Remember the name Antwon Cowles - 2020 Heritage running back showing some moves once he gets to the second level of the defense. Couple of runs for 23 yards in Phoebus territory as the Hurricanes are at the Phantoms 15.

Leading 21-7, it'll be Phoebus ball to begin the 2nd half.

Daequan Fleming with gains of 10 and 11 yards into Heritage territory. The Phantoms offensive line, anchored by Tim Young at center, doing a nice job creating running room.

Then it's Daniel Wright off to the races for a TD.

Heritage has 160 total yards (92 rushing, 78 passing), but only one touchdown to show for it...

Phoebus sitting at 164 yards on the ground. The 1-2 punch of Daequan Fleming and Daniel Wright with 163 of those between them and 3TD's. Phantoms have attempted and completed their lone pass of the night - an 11-yard strike to Barry Hargraves.

Heritage defender Benez Woodard - who has 7 solo tackles tonight - getting looked at after being helped off the field (apparent ankle injury).

Phoebus getting the ball back now after a Heritage punt and the Phantoms lead 27-7 with 3:40 left in the third quarter.

Not much offense from either team in that 3rd quarter.

A few defensive standouts...

Kareem Wilson (7 tackles, 4 solo) and Darrell Bryant (7 tackles, 4 solo) for Phoebus.

Benez Woodard (8 total stops, 7 solo) Nigel Simmons (7 tackles, 3TFL, fumble recovery) for Heritage.

So both of Phoebus' completions - Daniels to Hargraves - good for touchdowns. Beautiful catch and run from Hargraves on what essentially appeared to be a slant & go.

Heritage's offense has moved the ball down the field tonight at times, but defensively struggling to get timely stops, similar to their opener - a 28-21 loss to Warhill where they gave up 259 yards on the ground.

Heritage fans should be excited about what the future holds with Darius Price and QB - the rest of this year and next. They have several young linemen and underclassmen in the backfield, plus a speedy scholarship weapon at wide receiver in Tim Payne.

So if Heritage's offense gets hot, it could pose problems for a team that has trouble moving the ball late in the year.

Phoebus safety Damion Charity (one of the top prospects on the team) being helped off after an injury on a special teams return. Fortunately looks like it is not too serious, but we'll check afterwards in postgame.
