Follow LIVE Updates tonight here and through my Twitter feed (@hatfieldsports) as the Woodside Wolverines with a record of 2-1 overall take on the Phoebus Phantoms, who are 2-0, from Darling Stadium.

I think Woodside feels good that Jordan Knight appears healthy at QB. In his place last week, sophomore Tyler Thompson played well in a shutout of Kecoughtan. But Phoebus has to be glad they held them to a field goal.

Phantoms first possession coming up...

Correction - kicker for Woodside actually is Scott Signorelli

Phoebus converts its first 3rd down try on 3rd & 9 from their own 21 as QB Chris Daniels, promising sophomore, finds Dequandre Edwards for a gain of 12 yards on a slant.

On the next 3rd down - a much longer one of 3rd & 21 after a couple of penalties on the Phantoms - Daniels is unable to find Edwards. Woodside changed its coverage up on their first defensive possession and got to Daniels for a sack with some backside pressure. Tyreece White and Dartanyon Davis converted on the sack.

Phoebus punts it back to Woodside with the Wolverines up 3-0.

Coach Danny Dodson of Woodside has to like what he is seeing from his special teams. Besides the early field goal from Signorelli, punter Tyshiem Parker booms a 40-yard punt down to the Phantoms 8-yard line.

Wolverines lead Phoebus 3-0 with 3:19 left in this opening quarter. Somewhat decent turnout here on this Saturday night from a fan standpoint at Darling.

Phoebus looking at 3rd & 14 from their own 36-yard line as they have been flagged 5 times for 30 yards, going backwards by shooting themselves in a foot. Woodside has yet to be called for a penalty as we look at 9:26 to go before half-time and the Wolverines clinging to a 3-0 lead.

Facing 4th & 6 from the Phoebus 21-yard line after the nasty stiff-arm and long run from Outlaw, Woodside picks a bad time to get their first penalty with a false start. Yet, they'll still go for it on 4th & 11.

Jordan Knight had D'onte Chesson open at the last second going towards the end zone, but is unable to connect with him on a 4th & 11 pass.

Phoebus takes over, trailing 3-0 with 5:55 to go in the 2nd quarter, from their own 26.

Phoebus on the move as Fleming goes 33 yards (his previous 5 carries netted 31 yards). Then QB Chris Daniels comes up with a key 3rd down conversion. Phantoms are 3-5 on 3rd downs in this first half as they are in position to find the end zone before intermission.

3 completions in a row from Jordan Knight for a total of 32 yards (two of them to Jie Cleveland and the other on an out to Tyshiem Parker). Still have work to do to get points more points before the break.

Some half-time numbers...

Phoebus with 5 of 7 passing for 35 yards from QB Chris Daniels.

Phantoms have run it 17 times for 99 yards with Daequan Fleming (8Car. 66Yds.) and Daniel Wright (5Car. 22Yds. TD) leading the way.

That's a total of 24 plays for 134 yards from the Phantoms, who are 3 of 5 on third downs with no turnovers committed. Phoebus has been flagged 7 times for 40 yards. Juan Purdie leads the Phoebus defense with 4 total stops.

Woodside QB Jordan Knight is 3 of 7 for 32 yards passing, all of his completions coming on that fourth and final offensive possession for the Wolverines.

Wolverines have run it 12 times for 114 yards. Two big runs from Knight (63 yards) and FB Conrad Outlaw (38 yard burst) supplying most of that for them.

That's a total of 19 plays for 146 yards for the Wolverines, who are 1 of 4 on third downs with no turnovers committed. Woodside has been flagged twice for 11 yards. Michael Byrd has 7 tackles, 1.5 for loss to lead the Woodside defense.

Woodside's defense is going to have to step up against the run because the Phantoms are beginning to take control with a ground and pound approach. This is where the Wolverines miss some of those experienced, 3-year vets from their defense that graduated (ex: Dominique Sumter, Kamari Jackson, Kendall Bell, D'Angelo Chesson, etc.).

The Phoebus defense didn't budge an inch after that turnover. Kudos to Juan Purdie (8 tackles tonight) and that defensive front. Latrelle Smith, newcomer at corner this year after coming over from Tabb, also had an impact hit that series.

Correction - FG kicker for Woodside actually was Scott Signorelli, not Brandon Ferguson (roster snafu)

The Phoebus offense has gotten out of a rhythm after establishing the run quite well towards the end of the second period and early portion of the third quarter.

Two interceptions in that third quarter by the Phantoms offense could have them a bit apprehensive about going to the air also as we go to the 4th quarter...

Beautiful tunnel screen play where Jie Cleveland slips away from 3 tacklers for Woodside down to the Phantoms 3-yard line.

Then the Phoebus defense comes up with an outstanding goal-line stand, stopping the Wolverines on 3 straight plays from the 1-yard line.

Instead of being content to take the field goal and go up 10, putting the game out of reach, Phoebus went to the air and it cost them. Woodside still has life, but does their offense have confidence to put together an 80-yard game-tying (or dare say game-winning drive) after being stopped 3 straight plays from the 1?

Lateral loses 4 yards for Woodside, last tackle for loss by this tenacious Phoebus defense made by Dequandre Edwards.

Phoebus will take a knee and get out of here with a 13-6 win to move to 3-0 overall...
