More from memory lane from one of my VHSL State Basketball Tournament programs from the past years.
Since pawfan had such a fantastic memory of this particular year, I decided to post it.
This one is from 1970-1971 season.
Luray won it all again - this time in Group A - after winning it all in Group II in 1969-1970.
The Bulldogs beat King George 85-56 in the semis in a matchup of teams that won Group II and Group III state titles respectively the previous season.
Then Luray knocked off Thomas Walker in the finals 62-49.
Walker had beat Fort Chiswell 53-44 in the semis.
Thomas Walker had lost in the Group II State semis the previous year to Hayden.
The state classifications changed for the tournament in 1971 from Group 1-A, Group II and Group III to Group AAA, AA and AA.
Here's a picture of all four teams that partipated that season:
