Mac McClung breaks Allen Iverson’s single season scoring record

That is awesome. Congrats to Mac McClung. I'm not a big basketball person but have really enjoyed some of the clips of McClung. Wow- what a talent!

I'm from about as far East Virginia as you can get before the Bay so am not at all familiar with that sports scene but Gate City looks like a great school. Plus, it looks like everyone likes Mac which means hes a good, friendly kid as well. Love it when great kids have great success!!!

Question - It is awesome that McClung is going to Georgetown. Congrats!

I was just wondering why he chose Georgetown? Nothing at all wrong with it, of course, but it just seems like an interesting decision to make.

Maybe its because I have always pulled for the ACC in basketball (and VCU, where I got a degree).

Anyway Congrats again on that amazing record! Good luck to McClung!

Lastly, also, for any Gate City fans that may read this, my only personal experience with GC was back in 2004 (?) when you guys destroyed my area football team Essex at JMU in the snow for the State championship (1st trip for Essex).

I have told that story many times - We had around maybe 500 fans (if that ha) cheering against an army of like 5,000 wild GC fans. Everyone I met from GC was very nice and it was a great sports memory for me (except for maybe the losing big part ha).

I’m not close to the situation to know why exactly he chose Georgetown but I do know that Georgetown was one of the better offers he had at the time of his commitment. Cincinnati, Arizona State, & Boston college (among others) came in late around the time Mac decided to decommit from Rutgers. Patrick Ewing seemed to really want him after Mac had his visit to Georgetown. After that, Ewing and a couple other staff members made the trip to Gate City before the season and showed up at Mac’s house. It wasn’t very long after that in home visit that Mac committed to Georgetown. Patrick Ewing also showed up to a Gate City game early in the season too.

Maybe some of that had to do with it as well as Washington D.C. is a decenf amount closer to Gate City than Rutgers in New Jersey? Maybe a gate city native can shed more light on why Mac chose Georgetown.

One of the biggest reasons Mac chose the Hoyas was playing time right away. the Hoyas have 3 seniors in the backcourt this season & he will probably start right away at PG or be a combo guard. None of the other schools gave him this type of opportunity as an incoming freshman.
