Mac's (Gate CIty) first college dunk for G-town.....wow

Nice to see him get some serious PT. I was worried that he might not this first year.

How many points did he finish with? It was 8 when I turned the game off.

He finished with 8 pts, 2 rebs, 2 steals, 1 asst, and I think 3 turnovers. After he made the euro step move for a layup he was subbed out and didnt go back in. Not a bad outing for a freshman debut. He and Akinjo both were playing way too fast though which is to be expected for freshman. Tried to force some stuff and took themselves out of position to score on several drives to the basket.

I think he's going to be just fine in college......I really look forward to seeing him develop even further and become an impact player.

His struggle from the arc continued tonight as he went 0-3 for the game. All attempts were from deep. I agree with you and think he will do fine but hes no doubt going to have plenty of freshman slumps and mistakes. Hes lacking confidence in his shot right now which is understandable.

Just what I have seen he is doing really well and one of the better freshmen in the country

He had an impressive dunk last night in the Richmond game in which it appeared he was standing still and then very quickly went straight up and slammed it home.

I think the experts would tell him to concentrate on the easy shots and getting into the flow of the game and that will relax him, so that the threes will come along.

I think him sinking that 3 last night plus shooting his first FTs of the year got him into a flow offensively. He strung together 7 pt in less than a minute.

Also, I feel like hes much more dangerous and productive when hes the one bringing the ball up the court while Akinjo is getting a breather. When they are both playing together the offense is somewhat stagnant and everyone starts watching Akinjo. Maybe having them sub out for one another would be the better lineup instead of Mac playing the 2 spot. Hes a much bigger asset with the ball in his hands.

Oh my bad! I did not watch that game in its entirety because the UVa game came on. So when I saw his total of 16 today in the paper, I assumed it was a mixture of shots and that he had not yet found his three point rhythm. But based on your description it sounds like he will be just fine.

No I agree with you.... your absolutely right. It would benefit him to stick with the easier shots early on in each game to get into the flow or a rhythm. I think shooting FTs early in a game or making a few of his signature mid-range jumpers off the dribble would loosen him up a bit. Hes much better as a shooter creating space off the dribble instead of taking set shots. I think he was 2 of 4 or 2 of 5 from deep last night and was 4 for 12 shooting overall. Missed a few layups that were good takes but contested. Just didnt get the roll. He was 6-8 from the FT line late in the game as Richmond started fouling so that helped him get his point total up.

I think his offense will take off as the season goes on. It's his defense I want to see tighten up. But really, the whole team has played putrid defense. I think overall hes doing well though for a freshman and as a GC fan I am proud of the way hes performing.
