Very solid schedule for Magna Vista. They are the defending Piedmont champs and they will yet again be the favorite to win 3a. I love the Reidsville matchup. Reidsville won the 2aa state championship this past year and will be loaded again from what I hear. Reidsville is a program that can compete against Virginia's elite teams and I'm talking Highland Springs, Dinwiddie, Salem, Lake Taylor, etc! 17 NC state championships. I hate that MV and GW don't play each other in the final week. It gets both teams prepared for the post season and its probably the biggest and best rivalry in all of Southside Virginia. The Piedmont will be vastly improved as Franklin County , Martinsville and most likely Tunstall will all be playoff teams.

DSH, I will have to disagree on one point. I don't think that Reidsville could stay on the field with Va's elite teams. Oscar Smith, Grassfield, Woodside, Hampton, Ocean Lakes and teams of that ilk would drag Reidsville. Just my opinion.

The last couple of years they haven't been as strong as they have been in the past. This past year's team and some teams of theirs in the 2000s and early 2010s was "built like that"!! Ant I used to say the same thing! There used to be a huge argument about Reidsville not being able to beat VA's best teams. They STOMPED Gretna back in 2008 (Both teams won the state championship) and used to give then 6a GW absolute hell. They've had teams that IMO could compete with VA's best. They went 16-0 this past year and all but 1 game (against a very good 4A NW Guilford team) was even close. They also won their 17th state championship this past year. IT'S DEFINITELY THE PROGRAM!! Their longtime coach left ReIdsville back in 2009 to come to GW. Let's just say that he didn't have any success at all in Virginia and he went back to Reidsville after 2 seasons in Danville. IDK what they gonna have this year, but traditionally, they are a team to be reckoned with. They went on an absolute tear back in 2007-10. They didn't lose a game and those teams compared to their 2001-2005 teams were laughable. Talent GLAORE.

Rite indeed, Reidsville has some serious talent. I saw them play about 3 times last year. I will mention, that had a top flight QB. I saw their backup play last year and I think that will be their weakness this year. I look 4ward to seeing them play Magna Vista this up coming year.

I see that Coach Martin has left Martinsville to go to D.C. I hate that! Very good coach and man. I wish him the best. Hopefully your Dawgs can find the right man to lead them. I think that MV will be too strong for Reidsville this year myself. MV may very well get their 3rd state championship in 4 years this December. GW and MV will be one for the ages this year. I talked to one of the longtime assistants at GW this past weekend and he said that this year should be the year that they get back to the States. I don't know about all of that but we shall see.

I'm not sure on the exact number, I think 3 on offense(all o line) 5 on defense. We lose a lot, but at the same time have a lot coming back our backups were really good,imo. The biggest concern will probably be the the secondary.
I'd expect us to be a top 5 team in 2a.
I miss the series with Gw, those were some wars back in the day!

Yes in deed they were. Those Reidsville teams with Doe, Jerome Simpson, Chestnut, Blackwell... My dad used to take me to watch y'all play GW and Cummings every year when they had Dwight Jones and Brandon Tate. Man I miss those days. I wish GW was still playing y'all. Don't know if you follow Reidsville basketball but I tell people all of the time about yalls 2012 team. Best high school basketball team I ever seen that didn't win a state championship. Reidsville is definitely a hotbed for talent.
 
Also, Reidsville Middle is a powerhouse. They used to beat Holmes (Morehead), Dillard (Barlett Yancey), and Western Rockingham (McMichael) in blowout fashion. Very solid system.

You should come to magna vista game. We also play nw guilford that should be another good one.

I probably will be at GW Danville that week. They play Jefferson Forest that week so I'll more than likely be there. I'm excited for the season to start. So many intriguing matchups.

I was going to say, where did you dredge up that old thread? LOL.

Have you seen anything to this point that makes you believe that MV could be the Regional Champ?

I saw them last year. Had a lot of young talent but a lot of the older guys were hurt. They played without Cam Page and Perkins (their 2 best players) and still won the Piedmont easily. CJ Hughes is probably the best 2way lineman in 3a (he also sees time at LB).. They bring back Scales at RB who's 6'3 and hard as rocks to bring down (he's also a darn good safety) and Jalen Pritchett is a MAN at LB. I'll go far as to say as they'll be as scary on defense as any 4a team this year.

That's a pretty good endorsement. We know they are well coached, and a good program is in place. They play with attitude, which sometimes gets a little out of hand, on and off the field. Hopefully they keep that in check, and stay focused on football this season.

I also hope Scales can stay healthy. His past injury history has to be a cause for concern.
