I was hoping these two were going to play each other in the state championship game. We all know that this will be a high scoring game and I'm predicting both teams score 50+. Any thoughts and predictions? Scroggins vs McGuire, D-1 prospect receivers on both teams, etc. Should be a good one!

No prediction here. I only know one thing. There is no team, at any level, you want to see get off that bus than JM. GL to both.

I agree. JM is the real deal and I don't think MV has seen a team of their caliber.

Actually, MV has played some very good teams. MontIcello and Northside alone are no joke.

And to be honest, the JM defense has some outstanding players but they also have holes. You can run on them. The point is, none of this matters. JM finds a way. I don't know of too many teams where you can be dominant in a game and hold a lead into the 4th and be scared to death you're about to lose. That's Who JM is. A big play team that can literally steal your victory in seconds. This is who they are. This is what they do. And they do it all the time. They're just amazing. It's like watching Rocky again and again and again. Most difficult team to put away I've ever seen. Not just this year. Always.

Problem in this game is, MV likes to pass and that's exactly what JM wants you to do. So it's difficult to gauge a winner when the MV offense plays exactly into JM's hands. Also, there JM QB Scroggins. I have watched this kid since his 1st game as a Sophomore and you knew there was a spark immediately. Tough as nails, smart and accurate. I actually think he likes running the rock, being chased from the pocket and improvising. He is one of the best QB's in VA at any level. I guarantee that. Add Keyshawn Johnson, who has scored in just about every capacity this year. An FBS level skill player. DL Antonio Wynn-Coleman has FBS offers. Man child material.

But it's the same deal every year for JM. Some special players mixed with some others motivated to play way above what anyone thought they were capable of. This team does not for a second believe they can do anything but win. Everyone of them believes they will win the game, no matter what. And trust me, this is all Serbay.

I won't make predictions here yet. But believe it. There is not another team in VA you want to see get off that bus than James Monroe. They are the toughest out you can find.

JM has proven themselves over the years, I have never seen them but I have seen their success.

Magna Vista sounds a lot like JM, great athletes all over the field, and they can score in a heartbeat.
Magna Vista had an all-time classic game against Liberty (Bedford) that went back and forth all game long,
I would expect the same kind of game on Saturday.

Also, it is obvious that Coach Serbay is a great coach, but don't take Coach Favero lightly, he came to Magna Vista
6 years ago after they had been bad for several years, one year 0-10, and he has done nothing but win, reaching the playoffs 5 of his 6 years and now in the state semis. Looking forward to a great game.

I'd rather see JM get off the bust than Lake Taylor, Centerville, Oscar Smith, Massaponax, LC Bird, Hampton, Woodside, Ocean Lakes, Heritage, etc & those are the ones just off the top of my head. I think you're reaching there a little bit shaunty.

It was really Magna Vista's offense that held Northside to 7.....

.....in the 2nd half. Their offense controlled the end of the first half and the 2nd half by going on some long drives. The MV offense had the ball for 81 plays to Northside's 51 plays.

The MV Defense gave up some long plays in that game. Also MV's kicking game could hurt them in a close ,high scoring game. It should be a good game between 2 very good QBs.

Actually, it's not a reach. JM can definitely play with and possibly beat any of the team's you mentioned.

I understand all the doubters. I would be among them if I had not watched them for all these years. It doesn't matter what season it is. It doesn't matter who the players are. They are one of the toughest outs in VA. Doesn't matter who they play. They fear no one and trust me, have earned the right to be Feared.

Doesn't mean they win against MV but it should be no surprise if they're in Lynchburg next week.........for the 4th straight year. And if they get there, they will win.

Will be a classic in Ridgeway this weekend. I wish I could make the trip to watch, it should be extremely entertaining. The teams are mirror images offensively. Game should play out like that JM-Bville classic a few years ago. If JM wins, I have no doubt they'll break through this 3 year curse and bring home the title but those boys from South Henry County will have a lot to say about it. Good Luck to both and may both teams stay healthy.

Shaunty - your losing credibility when you post crap like that. I'm not saying JM would fear any of those teams but it wouldn't even be close and no one on my list or even Magna Vista is going to be fearing JM (especially if they can't stop the run). JM is and has been an outstanding program but 4A south, 5A, & 6A are a whole different ball game. If JM didn't beat Courtland than they aren't beating any of those teams I mentioned. Get real.

With all that being said - I'm not down on JM. If they win this weekend I do believe they will win the state championship.

So from these wins they have beat a 5A Mountain View who finished 4-7, a 6A Stafford who finished 1-9, a 1A Essex who finished 11-2, and a 3A Petersburg who finished 7-7. I'm not knocking any football program because after all no team can hand pick their schedule from year to year in order to play all powerhouses but my point is James Monroe's wins are similar to a few of Magna Vista's. MV beat a 6A Franklin County who finished 1-9, a 5A Halifax who finished 5-6, a 4A Bassett who finished 4-8, and a 2A Dan River who finished 7-4. Therefore, as far as quality wins I guess 1A Essex is that quality win because they too will be playing this Saturday in the State Semi's. I know that James Monroe's football history shows their capability of being in the running for a state title a lot so Saturday will be a great game for no other reason than their history. Magna Vista has had a great football program for several years and personally I believe it's their time to shine. They have worked hard all year and now it's time for them to show the results of their hard work. I just pray that it is a great game and that all players can play fairly and remain injury free.

JacksonVT you are correct that MV's offense controlled the tempo of the 2nd half however in order to do that they had to have the support of their defense. So, due to strong defense from the Warriors which included 2 big fourth down stops late in the fourth quarter the offense had the ability to control the 2nd half. MV's defense proved the famous quote that "offense sell tickets but defense wins games".

mountain view, stafford and north stafford 6A and 5A schools with a total of 11 wins beat two and lost to one.

great post drintuoti...Centreville is very, very good and they may not be the best in the state, it is my understanding that AJ Turner has backed away from South Carolina and its down to UGA and Oregon, that kid is the deal, plus they have 4 other D1 players that I know about

I would not classify Stafford as a quality win for they struggled against an extremely weak Stafford team. Lost to North Stafford and Courtland won and showed to be a superior team. But, winning in the second round of the playoffs is a quality win.

Having coached against Centerville....JM could not compete with Centerville...not any 3a school could.

I would like to see a Ponax vs. JM game....I am absolutely certain Ponax would win without problem.

There is a world of difference from 3a to 6a football. JM could not compete with the likes of Centerville or (this year) Westfield. Depth is the critical factor.

The Centerville Defense would destroy the JM Offense....as JM claims D1 receivers....Centerville DBs (like Turner) are D1 caliber. Not to mention JM does not have a player that can stop the Centerville FB--he crushed my team in the playoffs last year.

Control the outside skill players and the center of gravity for the offense (Scroggins) and it should be a MV win; the JM OL is bad.

Their D did make some stops in the 4th qtr. However in the 3rd....

MV had the ball for all but about 2 minutes. Their offense put together some great drives. The performance of their offense will determine the outcome of the game.
