Magna Vista/Monticello

Went to the Tunstall/Monticello game last night and let me tell you. Koonce and the other RB Monticello has are awesome! They have ALOT OF SPEED! The thing that's going to hurt them is their defense. Monticello's defense is atrocious! Tunstall's QB, who looked to be scared, threw about 5 wounded ducks and they only picked him off twice. Tunstall then went to the wildcat where they moved the ball at will against Monticello. Tunstall ran the same 2 plays (Javion Terry keeper or he would pitch to Teaun Carter) and the Mustangs COULD NOT STOP IT. If Tunstall would've had a QB who could've switched things up in the passing game then Tunstall would've won even with Koonce rushing for 350. Tunstall had only 2 threats to score really and Monticello could not stop anything Tunstall threw at them. Not down playing Monticello's win but they're in trouble against all the weapons the Warriors have on offense. #55 for Monticello is a beast but that's just 1 of 11. MV advances 56-37.

We talk a lot about Jacq Hairston and Koonce (best 2 backs in 3a imo) on this page a lot but let's give it up for #4 for Tunstall Javion Terry. That kid lost his mother a couple years back and he's one of the toughest kids in 3a. Transferred from Morehead in NC this year and he had to have had almost 200 yards rushing last night and he literally did it all and brought an outmatched Tunstall team back! He was the difference in Tunstall being 7-3 whereas they probably would've been 3-7 without him. I would've loved to see him on a better team where he could've gotten his name out there. Wish that kid the best.

How did Monticello's offensive and defensive linemen look? Were they big, athletic, or both? I think Magna Vista will be able to win being that Monticello's defense lacks big play makers. However the Warriors still have to play great because its win or go home and I know they don't want to go home just yet.
Big offensive and defensive lines for the Mustangs. They weren't the most physical but they weren't soft either. Tunstall ran the wildcat at will against them.
Danville sportshead- HMMMM, Just a couple of things to point out as you must have had your goggles on while watching the game. Did you forget that the Monticello defense held Tunstall to 5 consecutive THREE and outs to begin the game? It's funny how you can even use the word atrocious unless you really meant the tunstall defense. Monticello is big upfront and has a good set of linebacker including standout #21 who had over 11 solo's including a sack/backfield tackle before leaving the game with a stinger mid way through the 3 rd quarter . Monticello's first team defense has several playmakers and maybe you didn't realize Monticello started to rotate in some 2nd stringers as the game was out of reach mid way in the 3rd. All I here from your article is IF this IF that. Well if Monticello's defense was sooo anemic then Tunstall would have won! - they didn't, they were dominated early on and the 2nds maintained at the end. Now if it makes you feel better about MV, go ahead and underestimate this defense! looking forward to the long trip on Friday as it should be a good game unless you guys lay an egg like that other powerhouse from southern VA, Hidden Valley.

MV's defense shut Tunstall down, Monticello didn't. Tunstall was no match! Tunstall's offense was carried by ONE MAN (#4) and Monticello could not stop him. MV will eat Monticello up! Jacq Hairston is that good! End of discussion. No way should Tunstall had scored 35 points.
And to see you're only giving MV 28 points loses all your creditability, no disrespect. Monticello isn't playing any of those teams in the weak Jefferson District sorry. With or without McGuire, MV has playmakers at every position. With what I saw last night, if Monticello does win they'll have to score 50+ cause MV is going to score at least 42. MV has no kicking game and Monticello's kicker was pretty good so special teams could be a factor. MV rolls!
Slickwilly, wasn't Rodney Redd the coach at Monticello a couple of years ago? He was an old Magna Vista QB years ago before going on to play DB at NC State. Also taught, coached and was the AD at Magna Vista for awhile. Also stop and get something to eat before the game, it's a long walk from the parking lot to the visitors side.
Sorry, I don't see it - I looked at the teams MV played and their records - WEAK - just about as weak as the teams Monty played - aside from a few - I also just looked at some of the MV film - MV RB is good but NO comparison to Koonce. Monticello may score 60 plus if they dont sit him after the huge lead monticello will take into the half 
. I did notice the lack of the kicking game - if the Monticello DB are disciplined and Monticello will blitz a ton - MV will be in for a long night. It will onlybe on broken plays that MV will prevail - not on a methodical balanced offense.

again - half the defense was rotated out the score was 48 21 mid way into 3rd - just saying.

Hope ya'lls bus breaks down on the way down, sounds like that is the only chance the Warriors have. Have a safe trip down, hopefully they'll start the running clock in the 2nd quarter so ya'll can get back home quicker. Oh by the way, don't get a warrior sandwich, I hear they taste like crap, and we can tell you're already full of that!!
Saw the trash talk in this thread and thought it quite humorous, for a change. At least they knew it was trash talk and not delusional bravado. That was refreshing.

No room for any Mustangs in the pasture, mostly cows, some plow horses and a jackass or two. Come to think, you can come and hang out slickwilly, you would fit right in!! Good luck to the Mustangs, I'm sure they are every bit as good as you say they are and it will be an uphill climb for the Warriors this Friday at "The Hole". Have a safe trip down to Ridgeway, it's not the end of the world but you can see it from here.
Thanks for the invite! - Yeah - The mustangs wouldn't be a good idea on the ole farm, they would be too aggressive. they like to run a lot- usually in 100 yard increments!! If we win you will have to Nah like a horse all the way home, If we lose, I will drive your old tractor all the way back to C'ville.

Great thread guys. I wish more folks would get a sense of humor on the forum, instead of getting their panties in a wad. Honestly, there is nothing I enjoy more than a good clean thread that throws barbs around like this, and when the parties can remember to be a little self effacing.

Well, the way I see it, most of the message board posters are just dads/moms maybe, fans etc. and we really don't know what the heck is going to happen with these 14-17 year old young men when the lights are blazing on friday night - But it is rather fun to volley with the "other " side - kind of builds the excitement for the game - at least for the old farts sitting in the stands. I'm sure the boys don't need anything to get them motivated - they will be ready. I hope MV scores a ton of points but Monticello scores a ton +1
It should be a really good game. One thing is for sure slickwilly2000: the HOLE will be the place to be on this coming Friday night. You and the rest of the Mustang faithful should really enjoy yourselves. Can't wait. WARRIOR NATION!!!
