They join park view sterling in not playing football this year. Scheduling will be a nightmare now

Manassas Park was scheduled to be at least two different teams' homecoming opponent, so the complications go beyond just filling out a schedule.

Well, they may be choosing an independent schedule, instead of district schedule for the next two years, according to a newspaper article I saw, so that might help. Football scheduling is too difficult for me to figure out. You can't just schedule for distance, you have to take into account the points system, etc.

Looks like former Manassas Park opponents Skyline and George Mason will square off on 9/21, and Warren County picked up Western Albemarle (former Park View opponent) on 10/19.

Culpeper picked up Riverside

I know these schools may not have known early enough but it would have been easier on scheduling if they had cancelled earlier. Then schools who have trouble matching dates could've had the option to schedule a game for this week. I know the vhsl had allowed that in certain circumstances in the past. Hopefully all the schools left hanging can get mutual dates that work and nobody is left with a 9 game schedule.

9 game schedules might not be a bad idea considering I think a 9 game team gets the tie breaker come play off time if I’m correct

Wasnt aware of that. I did know that their rating isn't hurt, only divided by 9. However most teams losing a game were probably going to pick up points for a win in these two cases. Now they won't get those 22 or 24 points to help their average which will likely result in a lower rating.

In that aspect yeah I agree

I saw some story that said a team was getting a "forfeit" from Park View instead of picking up a game. Is that legit for power points?

That's interesting. I know if a team cancels during the season after playing a game that is usually the case. I wouldn't think they would award a forfeit win if pv and Manassas park had yet to play a game.
Gate would be the only benefit to filling that hole if they got points for a win

I guess the victory is kind of hollow, because there is no chance to pick up bonus points for any wins that team has, so it might actually hurt you to take a forfeit from a school that will have no wins. The team I saw that took a forfeit was a Class 2 team taking a forfeit from a Class 4 team, but rescheduling to replace a game lost to a Class 3 team. It really can get complicated.

Wife just told me that Manassas Park is on ESPN's Outside the Lines for cancelling there season, crazy

I heard that MP was on two teams schedule as their homecoming game. If true, (and I haven't checked it out), that creates an issue. Most schools have a very large gate for homecoming. If the cannot schedule another team for that date, it might prove difficult to switch homecoming to another home game.

Even disregarding the homecoming delimma, if a team loses a home game, (if they keep 100% of the gate) or lose a game period, (if they split the gate), it's a financial hit.

This thread was specific to MP, but add Charles City and Park View into the equation, and there are a bunch of AD's scrambling to find the best solution.

Skyline was able to replace the homecoming game by adding George Mason, on the date George Mason was supposed to play MP. The only problem is Homecoming is coming a little early and not with a lot of notice. Warren County kept the same date, but added Western Albemarle, who was originally scheduled to play Park View. Not ideal for either school, but the ADs got creative and got the job done.

Good enough to not have a running clock when they play EV?
Hard to tell. Everyone has big dreams in August. We'll know how good Culpeper is towards the end of the 3rd qtr. of the EV game. That's when we'll find out what kind of shape they're in on the D and O lines.

Unless things improve, you might see Culpeper in the same situation as MP and Park View. I heard last night their JV team only had about 17 or so players and fewer than that by the end of the game against EV. You would've thought that the success the varsity team had last year would've created a bump in the numbers, but obviously not.

Why the drop in numbers after the eastern view game? Injuries or players quitting?

Definitely does not bode well for them moving to Class 4 next year. And you can't blame the demographics either, because there is not the high high level of hispanic and/or asian students that are reflected in Park View and Manassas Park.

According to this (very long) article, Manassas Park has already put together most of an independent varsity schedule for the next two years:

https://www.insidenova.com/sports/f...cle_27591f80-b15d-11e8-9e65-d7be7e1129e2.html

While it will play an independent schedule for 2019 and 2020, Manassas Park plans to compete as a varsity team starting next season. The Cougars have already lined up games against Thomas Jefferson, Park View (twice), John Paul the Great, George Mason, Rappahannock, Paul Public Charter (D.C.) and the NOVA Kings.

Their JV is 3-0 so far, so they should do well against that schedule.
