Marion vs Giles: Opinions please

This looks to be an even game. Marion has lost to Abingdon (shutout I believe), Rural Retreat and Geo Wythe. Giles couldn't beat any of the G teams; Galax, Graham and new nemesis Glenvar. The G teams are good and the three losses were all close and decided late.

Giles has gotten better late in the season. Like many teams they have some injuries, but are about as full strength as can be expected for the post season.

What does Marion bring to the game, offensively, defensively, coaching wise?

Who do you like in this game?

I don't know anything about Marion other than the scores I read, but two of their games are worth mentioning. In week 1 they beat a Chilhowie team that ended up being pretty darn good by 28 points. On the other hand, they lost to Rural Retreat by one point. Rural Retreat lost more games than they won, including a fairly lopsided game with Chilhowie.

I would expect that Marion is pretty good, but their biggest wins were only against Virginia and Chilhowie. George Wythe beat them handily. If Giles continues the progress they have made, they should win. Either team is going to have trouble in the next round.

I'll take Giles by 21 here. The losses to RR and GW tells all you need to know. They will be good at kick off for sure, but will get worn down by the well executed single wing by the end of the third.

I saw some tape on Marion today vs. Virginia High, they looked solid and well balanced on O and D. Giles might beat them, but they not going to steam roll them. Giles is great to watch, because they run the single wing well! I hope Marion had played some Wing teams or they have a coach that knows how to defend it and the kids catch on quick.

Giles won't have any problems with Marion. May not be a 40 point blowout, but it will be a win nonetheless.

Maybe Marion looked good due to them playing Virginia High in whom yall claim is weak (I havent said nothing about them being weak).

Their QB, Bradley, is shifty. You think you have him for a sack and suddenly he's gone and throwing the ball downfield. But they don't have the talent or coaching to play with Appo.

That is what I noticed about him. He shifty and he has a arm. I dont think he is smart with the ball on throws down the field though. He good at hitting slant man, check downs, and cut back routes.

Giles should win this one. I don't think Giles and Marion have ever played. I think Giles usually rolls pretty good on offense when playing a team that hasn't played them ever. May not be a blow-out, but I doubt Marion can stop them enough to win. Now that being said, Giles is a very young team. Not too many seniors starting. Should be a pretty solid squad next year if they grow and progress together. I think this year they may be one of the top 12 or so teams in 2A, but not in the upper 5 or 6 teams this year.
