Mason at Madison

MC built a seven point lead midway through the 2nd quarter and actually looked like the better team. But Mason did what they do, and closed with a couple of threes to close the gap to one at half time. The refs called 10 fouls in the first QUARTER (6 on GM, 4 on MC). Seemed that everytime either time was close to getting in some sort of flow, the whistles killed it.

The third quarter was back and forth with neither team going up by more than 4-5. Early in the fourth, MC made a couple of turnovers and had at least threes rim out as GM built a 7-9 point lead. MC closed to 4 but was forced to foul. GM made their free throws to win it.

Taylor (18), Smith (17), Breeden (14) and Twyman (12) lead Madison. MC travels to Monroe on Thursday.

What I took away from this game: Mason is very good, well coached and seasoned. #14 is a player. GM's guard are solid. They are the best team MC has faced this year by far. Madison is much better than I thought. They never wilted against GM. Even though they are down to 9 players, the coach does a really good job with the rotations. Those young players seldom play like the youngsters they are.

I do not know what the rest of 2A looks like in the state but the Bull Run is strong (at least at the top).

The Bull Run is definitely a tough of district - Mason and Madison can play with anyone in the state. Strasburg and Central are not easy outs either.

I will be very interested in watching Madison v. rival William Monroe tonight. Coming off their first loss, traveling to WM, hostile crowd, etc, should tell a lot about this team.

You are correct in that Strasburg and Central are quality teams. If the parents (at least one of them anyway) at Strasburg would take off the myopic glasses and let the coach do his thing, they would be a better team. The kids see and hear what you are doing and it hurts the team pal.

I had every intention of heading down to Stanardsville tonight for the Madison game but as small as that gym is and the way Madison travels, seats will be at a premium. Somebody post some updates!

I heard about the parent confrontation with the Rams coach. Too bad. Parents need to get a grip.

Well.. not sure of the situation at Strasburg, but this was just released:

Strasburg’s junior varsity and varsity boys basketball practices and games have been suspended pending further investigation and until further notice, according to a statement released today by Shenandoah County School Superintendent Dr. Jeremy Raley.
