Mathews High School Football Challenge

The Mathews Blue Devils Football program invites you to participate in our Football Challenge on Saturday, June 15th of 2019. The Linemen Challenge will begin at 9 am and 7 on 7 will start at 11 am. Each team will play a guaranteed 2 games. Each game will have a 21-minute continuous clock until the final minute. Players will be called down from when the defensive player one hand tags them. Each possession starts on the 40-yard line going in. A will be a trophy given out to the winning team and an MVP will be awarded. Your team can bring offensive and defensive linemen to participate in the linemen challenge. This will be a 12-team event so entries will be first come first serve. You may enter the Football Challenge by emailing your school and team name to ckelly@mathews.k12.va.us or by calling me at (804) 384-2659.

Coach’s Meeting will be at 8:30 a.m in the Mathews High School Cafeteria

Competition Meeting will be at 8:40 a.m in the Mathews High School Gymnasium

Entry Fee:

· $100 per team (payments must be paid by June 1st)

Rules:

· 7 defenders and 6 offensive players. Must use a center to snap.

· 21-minute games; continuous clock until final 1:00 of play.

· 3 downs to make a first down

· First downs are made crossing the 25-yard line, and the 10-yard line.

· 4 seconds to get pass off. It will be a loss of down and treated as a sack. The clock will be stopped on a sack in the final minute of play.

· 25 second play clock

· One time-out per team, per game, and one timeout per team in overtime.

Scoring system:

· Touchdown – 6 points

· Interception – 3 points

· Turnover on downs – 2 points

· PAT – 1 Point

Overtime:

· 3 plays from the 10-yard line

· Each team has an attempt to score in each overtime period

· All PAT’s must be 2-point attempts from the 10-yard line.

· Overtime periods are not timed

Tournament Seeding:

Each team will play their guaranteed two games and the winners will be placed into the winner’s bracket, and the losers will be placed into the loser’s bracket. From there the tournament will be played out as a single elimination tournament.


Lineman Challenge:

· Tug of War – 5 members per team

· The Tire Flip Relay – 5 members per team

· OL vs DL 1 on 1

· Bench Press (205lbs for Reps) 3 members per team

· Farmers Walk Relay 6 members per team – each team will carry a 75lb dumbbell in each hand to a cone and back. The team with the fastest time wins the competition.
