Three single A schools came out swinging with something to prove last night. All three saw the result they wanted.
Galax-6-0 George Wythe: GW pulled a tie at home, but Galax was not about to let a similar result happen at their house. As I have said they are dominant at home anyway, but tonight it seemed they had a chip on their shoulder. I made it down to this one, and can safely say that if they continue to play to that caliber and can do so on the road they will be one tough team to beat.
Radford-5-0-Floyd: Sure it isn't really an upset, but coming off a loss then a long break Radford really needed to get this result in the books. Good on you, Bobcats. Now turn your damn warm up music down!
Auburn 2-0 Glenvar: Probably the most shocking result from the evening. I honestly figured Auburn had just given up the season. Have heard of a lot of inner turmoil going on in the squad as well as the losses. A nice result over a quality 2A squad. Hope this gets them ready to pull an upset in conference tourney play.

A good soccer day yesterday! First the big result!
Auburn 2-0 Radford in overtime. I was going to head to this game, but stayed back for Graham v. Fort instead (hadn't seen Fort this season) I did say I thought Auburn was good enough to pull a big upset. This is surely it. They have their issues defensively, but it looks like they made it work yesterday. Way to go! Hope they can carry this momentum into tournament time. Not sure if this result shakes up conference seeds or not.
GW over PH-Glade Spring: I heard it was like a 7-4 shootout. Good for PH for getting things working better. I know it was like 8 seasons before they ever even scored on GW.
Graham 9-1 Fort Chiswell: Well, I definitely did not choose well...
Grayson beat Narrows last night, but haven't heard an official score yet.

Auburn would probably have to lose their remaining two games (Floyd and Bath) to drop out of first now. Looking like Auburn will play the winner of Bath/Narrows and Radford will have Parry McCluer in Conference Semis

Floyd County takes down Auburn 2-1. Looks like a trap game scenario to me. Coming off a huge win over Radford, the Riner kids lose one that should have been a cake walk. Doesn't really help Floyd much. Short of Glenvar losing the remainder, they will be the 5 seed in 2A.
To night we will see Galax, Fort Chiswell, GW, and Honaker in action.
Radford v. Giles on Friday...a big matchup for sure

Honaker takes down Fort Chiswell 6-0 last night. Fort underperformed this season in my opinion, but this result surprises. Honaker had struggled (against bigger schools to be fair) all season. Maybe they will shake up the 1A regional play a bit.
Riverheads and Galax played tune up games for post season. Riverheads won 13-0 over Page County. Galax took Rural Retreat 10-0.
Tonight Radford and Giles face off. There may be some other makeup games as well, but that is the one I know is scheduled.

A 1A boys score from yesterday (Thanks to the Bristol Herald Courier)

Patrick Henry 8-0 Narrows
Campbell Buchanan and Gavin Grossman both scored a pair of goals to lead Patrick Henry over Narrows.
Also scoring for the Rebels were Rowan Orfield, Jeremy Johnson, Kirstin Woosley (?), and Annie Sheets (?). (Girls playing boys soccer?) Josh Salyers had four saves in goal.

There are quite a few co-ed teams still floating around out there in 1A. Fewer and fewer each year, but still a few around.

Radford won a 3-2 battle over Glenvar last night. Judging from the stat line some of the starters rested a bit. Smart move with Giles tonight. Radford is an anomaly...they can beat the best team in the state on one night and lose to someone who should be an easy win the next. It is pretty interesting. One thing is for sure...these are not the Bobcats of old.
Galax 4-0 Fort Chiswell: I was expecting a bit more scoring and hopefully a goal from the Pioneers as well. Glad I opted to stay in and do paperwork instead of heading to this one.
Auburn played Bath. Vtscubasteve13 may be able to give us that score. I would hope it was Auburn by 5 at least.

Postponed to Friday. But now Narrows is going to play Bath for the first round of conference play on Friday, so Auburn is done until playoffs next week

Which will also give Radford the opportunity to take the one seed in conference playoffs with a win over Parry McCluer or Giles

I had heard that...why are those two schools even in the playoffs...You should record at least one win to go forward...Narrows has not.

Narrows still has 3 games this week, one against Rural Retreat. There is still time. Also, the game at Bath will not be a playoff game. If Bath wins that game they could still end up with the 3 seed in the conference tournament.

I want to combine with another conference. Not weaken a weak area even further. That is what Honaker did for years. Worked better than moving mediocrity (or worse) onward.

Conferences have been realigned but don't go in effect until like 2018. Also, there are other teams in the conference, but they don't have soccer teams

Yes, and that is why they had always combined. Or cut it at 4 no matter what. Only five teams? Tough, you should have won more. The 4/5 game is the biggest waste in this bracketing. And you yourself have stated that this is aligned so that the better teams may go home early. That's a flawed system because it sends an inferior product to the state level.

Problem with that is that regular season schedules are still based on the old districts and the conferences aren't. Small 1A teams are pitted against larger 2A teams and larger 1A teams during the regular season and not against teams that are even near the same size. Teams like Narrows and Rural Retreat aren't going to beat teams like Giles, Grayson, Graham and even Galax and Radford. They aren't going to have a chance, ever. Yet those games make up over half of the schedules. The athletic directors can't really schedule any other games because the districts and state dictate how schedules are made. The kids would end up being punished for being forced to play against teams that are far above skill levels.

1A West scores from yesterday (Thanks to the Bristol Herald Courier):

Girls

Honaker 4-0 George Wythe
Madi Viers scored three goals and Megan Harris earned the shutout in goal as the Honaker Tigers improved to 9-3-1.
Viers also assisted on Kiana Roman's goal.

Boys

Honaker 12-1 Rural Retreat

Jordan Stout scored five goals as Honaker romped past Rural Retreat.
Nathan Jessee (two goals), Alex Dye (two goals), Brent Coleman (one goal, one assist), Daniel Ball (one goal) and Evan Harman (one goal) also got in on the fun. Honaker is 9-6.

One Tournament is set. Galax will take Rural Retreat and GW will play Fort Chiswell on the 24th. I don't think anyone is going to be shocked when I say Galax will face GW in the final. That could be interesting though...the game will be at GWHS and Galax isn't that solid away from home. I look for them to win, but it won't be easy.
Any News on the 45 tournament?

Radford and Auburn will have the 1-2 seed for sure. Not sure which will be which though. Narrows will be the 5 seed. Narrows plays Bath tomorrow night. If Bath wins that one then they will be the 3 seed, if Narrows can pull out some sort of miracle then Bath will be the 4 seed.

Auburn locked up the 1 seed and will face Bath or Parry McCluer on Wednesday at 6. Radford will face the winner of the 4/5 matchup at 8. Both games are at Radford

How will Region work? Am I right that Patrick-Henry Glade Springs and Honaker are the other two schools?
So someone gets a bye right?
