NC Realignment

NCHSAA realignment for 2021 to 2025 is now official
By Richard Walker

Local high schools now know their conference alignment for the next four years.

The N.C. High School Athletic Association Board of Directors voted to approve the realignment plan that will go into effect in August and run through the 2024-2025 school year on Wednesday.

No changes were made to the final draft that was submitted by the Realignment Committee last month.

The board of directors also passed a new playoff format, the 2021-2022 sports calendar, and the two-year football calendar.

Here are the conference assignments for area high schools. League members will meet in the next few months to name its conference and likely with current or recent names. For now, the leagues are listed by number given them by the NCHSAA Realignment Committee.

Incredibly surprised by this, yet happy. 8 classes was far to many and titles in my opinion were devalued. I would have preferred 5 classifications which is what I would love to see in the state of Virginia. I think 6 is to many and 4 is not enough. Only my opinion though. If I had to choose between 4 classes or 8 classes, I would choose 4 like North Carolina did. 8 classes was absurd. Glad they changed it.

I like that too; that is why I have been following it closely.
I would like to see a senario that divided the state in east and west with four classes each.
I guess:
East = 804 and 757
West= NoVa and Western VA

That’s too much like the right thing to do.
This is why NC high school sports is superior than VA’s.

@HooSprings laugh now, cry later. Daylan “Hollywood “ Smothers coming in 3 more Saturday’s.
I know all about Smothers. I also know they are replacing all 5 OLinemen and their starting QB(Bubba is nowhere close to last year’s QB). Hard to run when the D doesn’t respect the pass when his “big time WRs” are being covered by D1 DBs. Fact is,HSHS will face a BETTER RB/QB/OL combo the following week. I also know Chambers lost the entire secondary,but got an All-state transfer to go with the 3 NEW sophomores(They will be tested for sure). I really wish it was BOTH teams first game,but I know Cardinal will heavily test Chambers too. In reality,HSHS & Chambers are quite similar except HSHS has the better QB and Chambers has the better RB. Both have multiple D1 WRs. Both have multiple D1 DLine players. Both have nasty LBs. The coaches have faced each other(Johnson beat him in the State semis),so the schemes will not be a mystery to each other. That’s why both are ranked top 12 in the mid-Atlantic region.

Yeah okay. Manchester is good but it’s laughable that you think one 4 star RB is better than two 4 star RBs that Vance has 😂. Chambers is NC’s #1 team in 4A and yeah they may have lost some guys, but the transfer market in Charlotte/Mecklenburg County is just as active as the NCAA Portal and best believe they benefited from it! Their recruits >> Highland Springs’ recruits. HS are heavy underdogs. Run game will be very suspect, pass game unproven, the offensive line is in the worst shape it’s been in since Johnson has been Head Coach and you lost the best player in the state of VA last year on your D-line and replace most of your secondary. Bro, y’all are not on Chamber’s level. If you beat those guys, it’ll be a big time upset.

Totally unfair to compare any Charlotte Area team with other out of state schools and which one is better, and then even try to make the leap or claim that NC football is better than VA football because the Charlotte school wins most of the games with out of state opponents.

Why? Charlotte can simply form a super team or something close to it by open enrollment/transfer/etc while in Virginia, for the most part, you can't do that.

Read my above statement. NC high school sports are better than Virginia’s in general. The Charlotte area has some good football programs (Butler, Chambers, Mallard Creek, Catholic, Indy) but the state is balanced and Greensboro teams and Raleigh/Wake County have been those Charlotte area teams’ kryptonite. NC Football is nothing like VA where we know it’s gonna come down to Stone Bridge vs Maury or Highland Springs or Salem vs who ever comes out of Region B every year or Riverheads winning 1A every year.

I respectfully disagree. For starters, you state "NC High School Sports" and only talk about football. Is football a complete representation of all "Sports"? You are mentioning individual teams/areas and their dominance such as Riverheads. Because 1 or 2 Divisions in Virginia are top heavy doesn't mean the entire Division (for example, 50 teams or so) are less good than a comparable division in North Carolina. There are so many ways to compare "who is better" that it's simply not possible. One way I could compare is amount of Div 1/FBS players per capita, meaning, when taking the total population of each state, what is the percentage that goes on to play major college football. Or, how many players in each state had an elite college football recruit per capita/based on the population of the state. Well, that was done in 2017. Virginia ranked 10th. NC ranked 16th. If going by the total number of FBS/Div 1 recruits per capita, back in 2010, Virginia ranked 16th and NC 18th. The bottom line this.....you can't compare to say "which state has better High School Football" unless you strictly define how you are going to measure that. I' have given you some measurements above that suggest Virginia is better, IF you are going strictly by what the measurement above states. There's no way to tell. Now, this is even a whole other ball of wax when talking about all "High School Sports."

Okay guy you got it. I made two separate points but okay whatever you say.

First of all,Chambers only has 1 4 Star! Jordan Thompson is only a 3 star. The 4 star JUST got upgraded too. The Manchester RB has been a 4 since the beginning. The QB at chambers doesn’t compare to the Manchester QB either. Not even close! For the record….the #1 RB in the country was from VA last season. Johnson is man enough to coach off the talent coming through the east end,and continues to win every yr. I’m not sure ANY player from Chambers is better than Braylon or his younger brother,but that’s not for me to judge. I can judge the fact our QB has a POWER 5 offer IN HAND and the Chambers QB doesn’t. Both teams have recruits with Major Power 5 offers so I’m not sure how you say the Chambers recruits are > than the HSHS offers.

My concern at our scrimmage today was the out of sync play due to multiple players missing. A lot of kids playing out of position. Not many DEs want to play MLB,but it’s a scrimmage,so just hitting someone is worth it. I don’t put much stock in scrimmages but the kicking game is HORRIBLE this yr. All the athletes in the world can’t make up for a poor kicking game. The big QB is every bit advertised. The smaller one needs to consider moving to another position. He’s electric but not a good passer at all(threw a pick 6). This team will be great once all the Covid and injured kids come back. Luckily they have 3 weeks.

Based on BOTH scrimmages,this team will be everything advertised,but today’s was missing A LOT of players for more in-depth evaluation. Very very bland,basic play calling,but a lot of different feet touched the field. I wanted to see the full DLine play at the same time,but it never happened. I know you gotta see who can “really go” when the lights are on,so I’m ok with the fluctuation of players. The starting Dt held his helmet most of the day,but really clogged things up when he played the last TD drive. Much credit to TDale! They showed up!

Per capita doesn't really have anything to do with it. More about how many good teams do you have and how much talent. When is the last time VA produced 26 4-star recruits in one class?

You can say that though. Chambers does have the highest ranked recruits on both sides of the ball. I mean, you can look it up lol. And Torren Wright has been a composite 4-star for over a year. Smothers is only a junior lol. He's ranked higher on this site than Brown is as a senior. I'm not sure where you get some of this stuff lol. Maybe Wright goes back to Kannapolis. Chambers would still have the better prospects on paper.

^^Case in point. Yes, you had the top ranked RB last year. NC had the #2 (also a 5-star) and #6 within an hour's drive of each other. This is a down year for us (even though we do have #3 overall player in the country) and it's about like one of your good years. And it's because we have more people (about 2.5 million more). Charlotte is about twice the size of Richmond. So of course we're probably going to have a few better teams. I'm pretty familiar with VA and NC. Not saying Chambers is better than HS - I don't know. But I promise you there isn't a Mallard Creek or Hough in your conference that you have to deal with every year. No doubt in my mind who has better football. TX, FL, GA some of the best high school football year in and year out. Not just a coincidence they're also three of the most populated states in the south where football is everything.

First game today in the McDonald's Kickoff Classic was just cut short due to heat. Dorman was beating Mallard Creek 21 - 7 in the third quarter. So looks like SC teams will win 4/6 as Byrnes will probably handle West Charlotte.
