I have a dilemma on my hands and just thought maybe you guys could offer me some advice. My 51st birthday is this weekend and I want to celebrate by attending a state championship game either in Lynchburg or Salem. I have never been to Liberty to see a game but have been twice to Salem. The chance to see two 14-0 teams in Salem and Lake Taylor is rather intriguing however I am also excited about Glenvar and their prospects for a title. Any ideas are appreciated. .

I think Glenvar vs. Wilson Memorial will be a defensive war and I really don't know much about the two teams, but I think it's going to be a close one no matter what.

To me, Salem and Lake Taylor is super intriguing. They've been on a collision course all year, and they definitely have contrasting styles and philosophies. It'll be fun to see which system works out. I also think, if you see LT you'll be surprised that they don't live up to the stereotypes pushed on them sometimes. They are athletic, yes, but that term is too often used to imply that a team isn't well coached, or hard nosed, or tough, or that the team has no heart. Nothing could be farther from the truth. You'll come away impressed, and shaking your head a little because you watch what they do on defense and feel like they shouldn't be able to get away with it, but they do. I'd probably opt for Salem and Lake Taylor, but I don't think you can go wrong here.

u migt be right but i bet u this

Salem will knock some heads. These srs. Have played 42 games in three years. I was surprized how. Many taylor players threw helmets down thought they lost, quit.... all I can say is this....... salem will show up... up better be ready to hit cause alem will punish u up frront

Re: u migt be right but i bet u this

I am sure both games will be hard hitting affairs and most likely low scoring too. I am leaning toward a liberty visit right now. Two 14-0 teams is just too good to pass up.

Go to Liberty. Salem vs. Lake Taylor as interesting as any game in the state. Lake Taylor may have a talent edge, those people always think they do, but that is not always determining factor. First of all, Salem has talent too, a very impressive senior class, are well coached, and in games like this character, discipline, and execution often are the difference, the boring things fans do not usually talk about. I give Salem the edge in those areas. I expect the Spartans to win because of the overall package, talent, and also all the rest of it.

I wasn't saying Salem wasn't tough and well coached. Those things are kind of implied about Salem. I just thought it sounded like the OP was from down that way and might not have seen Lake Taylor. I've seen them three times now, and they were not at all what I was expecting a 757 team to be.

If I didn't think this was going to be a slobberknocker, I wouldn't recommend it.

You might consider doing as I am. Go to Salem for AltaVista-Essex game at 12:00. The make the voyage to Liberty University for the Salem-Lake Taylor game at 4:30.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!

I hope I make it to 51 and beyond. Have a good one, can I catch a ride to the game?
