So lets talk football again. Who is going to have the team to make a trip to Salem next year? I believe Glenvar has a whole lot of players coming back. I know that Wilson lost a lot of key figures in the run they have been on. Riverheads loses many keys players as well. I am not sure about what Giles loses. Can Gretna get headed back in the other direction? Is there another team out there ready to make a run like Glenvar did this year? Already looking forward to next year as I just cant get into basketball.

Our district has been accustomed to seeing Wilson and Riverheads duke it out most years. In fact this year, RHS won the regular season match-up and therefore the district title (if there really WAS one) but then Wilson made the stronger run in the playoffs. Last year the opposite was true. Wilson had the great regular season but Riverheads advanced further in the playoffs.

So next year, who knows but all indications are that each one could have its holes to fill and that maybe another team could step up and make some noise. Could be East Rock, which handled everybody else BUT those two, or it could be Luray, which raised some eyebrows this year. Don't rule out Stuarts Draft next year or any other and Buffalo Gap seems to be on the way up also.

As someone has just pointed out, when playoff time comes, there will be a natural split. Wilson will still be 2-A, Stuarts Draft will drop down from 3-A to 2-A, and Riverheads will drop down to 1-A. Not sure about all the others and who might also be dropping down.

Stonewall and Luray are also dropping down to 1A. Everyone else is 2A. I think the Shenandoah is going to be wide open next year. It will be a great opportunity for someone new to step up and claim the district championship. Then again, it could be either Wilson or Riverheads winning the title.

I totally forgot about us going back down to 1A. Guess Riverheads fans will be on a new board next year back with Altavista, William Cambell and Central Lunenburg to name a few teams we have ran into before.

In the west, Glenvar and Giles will be very strong again. Glenvar will be tough to beat next year as many key players are back. Those sophomores and juniors got another full "season" against quality teams under their belts in the post season and they now believe in the system Clifford's put in place in the offseason so I expect some improvement from this years team. Glenvar has potentially five All State players on the squad next year.

Giles will rebound and come back stronger than ever. My guess is that they will adjust the game plan throw the ball more but with their success maybe they just reload and do the exact same thing they've been so successful with. Very good possibility they will face each other in the 2A finals at Salem next year as I see them at 1/2 in the preseason rankings.

Since Riverheads is moving to 1A and Wilson is losing some many players, don't know who is going to beat either Giles or Glenvar except maybe a team liker Gretna. Gretna has the talent level to get to Salem but big question is whether or not they can work hard and come together as a team during the offseason. If they do they will be a force.

Glenvar will be very strong next year. They will lose a few key players on offense and defense. Remember the JV team went 5-1 this year only losing to 3A LB. I expect them to make another run to SALEM in December. As always Giles will be in the mix.

It will be really interesting to see how Ridgeview does next year in its first season. I would have to assume that a combination of Haysi and Clintwood will have a strong team. Those kids have a tradition of success. Lots of success

West-Ridgeview, Union, Appomattox, Gate City, Glenvar, Giles and Richlands will all be very good
East-Clarke, R.E. Lee, King William, Strasburg, Woodstock, and Goochland will be very good

Guys, don't overlook Richlands ! They were young and have a lot coming back next year. They had a soph. at backup QB this year that they are really high on who has a great arm.
They will have something like 8 or 9 starters back on both sides of the ball, and they have a great coach.

Glenvar returns a lot for sure. As far as Giles, They return 2 all region linemen, plus a very good JV line last year. Mann, Beitleman, in the backfield. Chapman looked real good at fullback as a 9th grader. We lose a lot, but still have a great nucleus returning. The weight room is full from what I hear. A lot of tough teams out there to get to Salem.

I'm going out on a limb here and say that HR6 picks a "G" team to win it all next year

I think Glenvar should be tough as does everyone else. Giles lost a lot and some are thinking they have no chance. I can tell u I look for them to surprise. They have a great backfield coming back, losing Whitlow is only back they lose. Have another great one coming to take his place in Chapman who I think can be great. They have several lineman coming back and as someone else posted good ones front Jv coming. I think they take a few loses early but by the end of the season I see them being pretty good. I wish they played Glenvar last game again next year but play them week six. Not sure they will be where they need to be by then but time will tell. My pick would be Richlands. Talked to their coach mid season and he told me then he felt they was a year away. As everyone found out, u have to play the games. We will know next Dec

Glenvar loses a lot of its line, which IMO think that was the biggest part of their run. I believe you will see Glenvar in a spread offense next year. They have about all their skill players returning on offense.
