Nottaway could be a good opportunity for the right person. They usually have pretty good athletes.
I haven't heard anything, but I know they endured a two win season. That is not what the Cougar faithful are used to. When I leave the Dinwiddie home games I usually have the radio tuned to the station that covers their games, (WSVS). You got a real sense from the announcers dialog this year that there was dissension in the ranks. Based on that, I guess change was enivitable.
And you are right Vol. Plenty of good athletes in that county, and football is king. Probably a good place for a young coach to build a resume.
Last year Nottoway had over 25 seniors and a state final 4 team. This year they had a very young team and they took their lumps just like Wilson Memorial. Both teams should be much improved next year year with many young guys getting a lot of varsity experience this season. Not sure if that calls for a coach to be let go. 2A football is not the same as college or 5/6A football in VA or HS football in places in Georgia, Texas, or Florida where HC make over $100k just to coach and are expected to win.
I was about to say the same thing about Nottoway and seniors from last year. Appomattox beat them and then Heritage 2 years ago, then they went on to Final 4. Talent in high school goes through cycles. People forget to acknowledge that. As much as I hate to say this. I hope Coach Smith can do wonders with our middle school team when they come up, because it wasnt good at all for them. We well be solid next year and after that talent takes a dip.
