I'm a nerd for new schools...from their names to their colors to their mascots to their logos.
When you think of Prince William County, you think of big, higher classification high schools. However, there is now a twist with High School Number 14 which is their next one to open in 2029. And I'm posting it on the Class 4 Board as it may have Class 4 ramifications.
Enrollment size for the new school has been significantly decreased to 1,400. That could make Class 4 a potential landing spot when it opens especially if the school doesn't field a senior class like many new schools do not when opening in Prince William County. Their first year will in Year 3 of the current Four-Year VHSL Alignment Schedule so that would make things easy as far as scheduling is concerned as they would be at the start of a two-year cycle (i.e. the backend of the four-year cycle).
So...potential landing spots? Maybe a stretch, but they could land in an already nonsensical and bloated Northwestern District as a Class 4 School. They could also go play with the Loudoun Schools in either of the already-small Catoctin or Dulles Districts. Or maybe they will be the lone Class 5 School (once their enrollment settles down and may actually be Class 5 or if they have to play up from Class 4 to Class 5) in either the Cardinal or Cedar Run Districts with fellow county schools.
A lot is in the air (unlike High School Number 6 in Stafford which opens in 2026 which will certainly be Class 6 with a capacity of 2,150 and may even be a Class 6 School when they open (or they will most likely play up with the other county schools).
But it's fun to think of hypotheticals even though it's way too early. Thinking of which schools new schools pull from (in the article), which coaches they poach, will they be competitive. Just a lot of cool aspects across the board.
Either way, here's the link to the article if anyone wants to read it. https://www.potomaclocal.com/2025/0...chool/?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=facebook
