Just thought I'd shake up things and add something besides the usual norm of scores from around the commonwealth. (Yeah, I think most of us like to see those scores. But it should be something more than a "score site." Follow?)
* Just note that not all records are included with certain teams from certain districts. Finding Jefferson stuff is a little hard, since my two sources seem to care more about some other sport that uses a stick and that grand European sport of kick ball. Evergreen, well ... it's a football league, after all.
Here goes:
1. Western Albermarle 13-2 (Jefferson) ... Warriors have nice one-two pitching punch and they have a big one coming up Friday at home with Monticello. Stay tuned.
2. Sherando 16-1 (Northwestern) ... These Warriors have two more to go in the district to get 12-0 in the district. Skyline and Handley are next. What ya think, fans?
3. Monticello 12-2 (Jefferson) ... Mustangs have lost only to Spotswood (by a run) and the first time around against Western Albemarle. They can keep this thing shook up in the Jeffy with a win in Crozet Friday.
4. Potomac Falls 13-3 (Dulles) ... the Panthers still have as good a pitching staff as any in the region, but they lost for the first time in district play last week, 1-0 to Heritage. Even so, still probably the best this league has.
5. Heritage 11-7 (Dulles) ... a win over Pot Falls pushes you ahead of a lot of teams. Coach Price is doing a good job with the Pride.
6. Fluvanna (Record not available; not updated on school site, no where to be found anywhere else) ... the Flucos have made a name for themselves this season in the Jefferson. Too bad this league only gets two through to Region II.
7. Loudoun Valley 13-6 (Dulles) ... man, the Vikings were playing big-league, with nine straight wins ... until having teams hang 10 runs on them in two not-so-close losses back to back. Pot Falls, we understand. Briar Woods, that caught some folks attention. Good job, football school!
8. Woodgrove 9-4 (Dulles) ... The Wolverines are hanging in there with mostly freshmen and sophomores. Whether they become one of the "Dulles4"? Better not get upset in the district quarters (which could happen).
9. Powhatan (Record unavailable, schoo site or any other source.) I guess we can always ask Wonsley. Heard (a few weeks back) that they were around .500, but I do know the Indians have a win over Western A. That and being the defending state champ, regardless if they had major holes to fill, still earns ya respect, in my corner.
10. Millbrook 9-9 (Northwestern) ... Brian Burke has done one of the best coaching jobs in the region. He has a load of freshmen and sophomores playing and is an established No. 2 in the NWD. Some might say, so what? I say, good job, Double B! (Hey, they were 2-7 and have played Sherando close twice.)
Others to watch: Briar Woods (beat LV), Liberty (leads the Evergreen), James Wood (only needs to get No. 3 seed in the NWD and win against Millbrook to reach region playoffs), Warren County (Vern Mathews has also done a good coaching job, with only five losses at this stage).
