NND & Region A Volleyball Tournament

Congrats to Northumberland as the Indians upset W&L to win the NND Tournament Championship trophy.

W&L won the NND regular season and W&L, Rapp, and Northumberland finished in the top three.

Of course, Northumberland and W&L are on the same side of the Region Bracket as powerhouse Mathews (only one can make states).

The good news is surprise team Rapp (who had a great season despite losing its top stars and having no tall girls) is on the other side of the bracket from Mathews.

As often is the case in many sports, the NND teams beat each other up during the regular season which hurts their region seeding spots.

In JV action for a possible look into the future, Northumberland was the top NND team with a 17-2 final record just edging out the Rapp JV team who finished with a program best 16-3 record (they went 1-1 against each other).

There's a lot of good volleyball being played again this year in 1A. The top half of the bracket is brutal and I think you're going to see some upsets along the way. Regardless you're Champion and runner up are probably going to come from the Tidewater or Northern Neck. They've been beating each other up all year and I just don't think the Eastern Shore and Tri-Rivers schools have played the same level of competition. At the end of the day it's still going to run thru Matthews, but I could see a sleeper like Rappahannock or West Point coming out of the bottom half.

I'm taking CB. Their losses are to playoff teams and bigger schools and they beat Region 1A #7 Franklin twice.... and I think the simplified power point system is flawed and has overrated the Ponies.

Yes, I just heard as well. Bummer for the Neck who had to travel in both games. I hear both Northumberland and Rapp lost tonight to the Tidewater teams in 3 sets.

Congrats to Mathews, West Point, and Middlesex.

I hope that W&L won tonight. If so they have to go to #1 Mathews. Loser goes home, winner to states. I wish that they were on the opposite sides of the bracket- oh well, it is what it is.

Good luck to the Lady Eagles (they have some really nice girls and a fun, wild, and energetic coach - I love it.)

I'm taking West Point @ Middlesex. They're due and playing hot right now. WP in a 5 set thriller.

As much as I want to pick W&L in the upset. Coach Moughon runs a heck of program down there. Her girls will be ready to go and all things being equal. I've got to go with the team that has who I think is the best head coach of any sport boys or girls in Region 1A. Matthews in 4 sets.
