I see Northumberland "hype", based on an undefeated season so far. (Although they did lose to a Home School team- which is a loss in my book) correct me if i'm wrong, but they haven't played anybody yet. And the NND schedule is looming. good luck Indians.

Essex's record and Lancaster's record are deceiving. They are perhaps the two best teams in the NND.

Essex made a strong showing in the Christmas tourney- full of 6A, 4A teams. I believe they came in 6th, with a 1-2 record and a good showing in the other games. They also had late players arrive after a football playoff run.

Lancaster was also in the same tourney. going 1-2, winning the 7th place game against Manassas Park. Put Essex and Lancaster against normal 1A teams and they will be strong.
Lancaster also has a loss to Christ Church- a very very good private school team.

I applaud both coaches and AD's of Essex and Lancaster for scheduling tough teams and getting battle tested before the meat of the district season starts.

Here we go. NND time!!!!

Essex lost to Fredericksburg Christian by 8 Northumberland beat Fredericksburg Christian by 7. Essex beat middlesex by only 7 and Northumberland thump Middlesex by 33. I think it’s fair that this district should be between Lancaster and Northumberland but anything can happen. I wouldn’t even count out the Drifters!!

such not so subtle envy lol.

what? Northumberland with a better record than Lancaster in Lancaster's main sport, oh my.....

Let's see, the Indians did beat a 5A this season but that was just a scrimmage so that win doesn't count either...oh, they did defeat a 3A in the regular season, but they are just so so, well, NHS did defeat a team that beat Essex, plus the Indians have already beaten a few teams that will make the Region A playoffs.

NHS lost away in Richmond by just two points to a solid private/home school team that has already won like 16 games or so... NHS played them just for the good experience of being battle tested before the district starts...

oh, only Lancaster and Essex scheduled wisely....

Didn't Lancaster play three of the same "wisely" scheduled opponents as Northumberland in Mathews, Middlesex, and Northampton.

.....let districts sort them out. Lancaster know what they got to do. It's good to have the target off our backs for a change. Move in silence Red Devils.

Lancaster with a 4-3 record definitely don’t show how good they are the teams that beat them were real good freedom 5A Christ church private stonewall Jackson 6A and all the teams had giants on them we will find out Friday vs rappahannock Raiders how good the devils are raiders beat w&l and lost to Essex.....Lancaster is ranked 3rd in state dropped one spot from 2nd and Northumberland jumped from unranked to 5th
We going to see what them Indians made of
Go reddevils

The NND does look strong so far indeed.

Four of the current State Top 10 teams are from the Neck (and another local team just dropped out).

# 3 Lancaster, #5 Northumberland, #7 Rappahannock, # 9 Colonial Beach

State Top ten a bit different compared to preseason poll which was a tad West heavy.

Northumberland plays at the Beach tonight in battle of State Top ten teams as the district battles begin.

NHS at LHS next Tuesday!

Huge early State 1A contest in Boys Basketball coming up this Tuesday! (glad it is on Tuesday as more snow may be coming next week).

Two Top 5 Virginia teams going at it in Lancaster -

#5 Northumberland at # 3 Lancaster in a major rivalry game of schools only around 20 minutes apart!

yet (even more this year it seems to me) these the local battles definitely have major state ramifications down the road as both programs are definitely possible state title contenders.

The game is at Lancaster and the Devils usually do very well there historically...

However, so far this year it looks (if one compares scores) that the Indians may be the better overall team..... so we shall see...

Of course, rivalry game in the Neck - who knows how it will go down in the 1st one..
