How times have changed over the years. Back in the 80s there was only one small high school in Nokesville Virginia and that was Brentsville. Now there are three high schools in Nokesville Brentsville, Kettle Run, and Patriot high school. They are all doing very well in football this year and still have a chance in the playoffs as they all won yesterday.

Well there is now one school left in the playoffs from Nokesville and that is Kettle Run.

Ironically, a former dairy farmer from Nokesville bought a home on a small private lake here in Dinwiddie a few years back. If I remember correctly he played football at Nokesville High. Based on how old that I’m guessing he is, I would guess that would have been in the mid to late 60’s.

I’ll have to give him a call tomorrow and talk a little football.

He and his wife are super nice folks. His health is not good. Probably from a life time of 16 hour days running his dairy farm. I’m going to call him this afternoon. You know how it is, if you ever played high school football, it’s in your blood for life. He will enjoy talking about how well Brentsville did and Kettle Run playing for a championship.

Some odd talking points about Nokesville:

Nokesville spreads in Both Prince William county and Fauquier County.

Nokesville is very rural town compared to the surrounding city’s in Prince William. Brentsville is nicked named “Cow Pie High” in the local area.

The middle school is called the Nokesville school.

The small Brentsville HS is about 5 min from the Huge Patriot High.

Kettle Run is the newest school opening in 2007. KR is only 10min from Patriot and Brentsville.

Patriot High School address is located on Kettle Run Road. Lol.

We have a great youth football programs feeding the Nokesville High schools but they also feed 3 more 6A schools that spread the youth talent.

Who is #77 from Brentsville District? He is one of the best o-linemen I have seen play. Extremely powerful, with great footwork.

That is junior Tyler Nix.

100% all American beef with that kid. He serves a lot of Pancakes.
I think he is responsible for stealing my bacon! Seriously, he played hard and was opening holes. Junior? With the way recruiting is hitting Virginia, Brentsville better sign him real quick for next season. If you know him tell him great job and great season.

Up until the late 90s Brentsville High School was either 6th thru 12th grade or 7th thru 12th grade. Now its just 9th thru 12th grade. How times have changed. I did not know Nokesville was also in Fauquier County.

Wasn’t Patriot originally supposed to be named Kettle Run?

It seems like an interesting area, right between the more rural central VA and the suddenly booming NOVA. Makes sense to have a good talent pool there, and Nokesville is right in the middle of it.

I agree! There is talent, But it gets robbed by the private schools and DC High school sports factories. Football and Basketball especially.

For example: current RB Blake Corum of the Michigan Wolverines, should have been in the graduation class of Kettle Run 2019. There are a lot of Michigan Jerseys in Warrenton. Blake was highly recruited to drive and remotely lived to play football for St Mary’s Academy in Maryland to get national recruiting exposure. Great for him, bad for the local team and Virginia Football.

There are lots of these type stories of Virginia kids going to out of state schools in Northern VA.

Ah yes, a tale as old as time with athletes leaving their public school zoned areas for privates. It usually seems like the best decision for them, but as a public school grad and huge supporter I do wish kids would stay more often. That is crazy that Corum would have gone to Kettle Run. Also makes me respect big time athletes that stay and are still successful, Mac McClung is a prime example for basketball at least. NOVA public schools like you said in particular would greatly benefit sports-wise if kids stayed more often.

Lafayette was to have a top DL last year, was to be a Senior, but left for a private school in FL. But left in mid season and didn’t play locally the rest of season. That did not work out,

Cannot agree with you more! If the talent stayed local, it supports everything in that school system and that community. The fact is when they choose to attend the “NCAA talent factories“ there is collateral loss Across the board.

To be transparent: if my kid was a 4 or 5 star recruit, I would have to look at the options too!

I'm guessing Kettle Run drew students from Fauquier and Liberty High.

Fauquier maybe if kids tried to manipulate the boundary lines? Liberty is way too far out in the county.

I knew a kid from Manassas park that wanted to try to transfer to Brentsville when their program closed. That’s was shutdown quickly to limit a Mass exit from Manassas.

If he lives in Marshall how is that Kettle Run’s zone? Isn’t that Fauquier?

his family lived in 20186 zip code called New Baltimore back in 2018. A few Neighborhoods down from us. He actually made a visit with Coach Porterfield and the team to check out KR. As expected the facility was no where up to what he was already experiencing at St. Mary’s.

if his family moved out to Marshall that is something I wouldn’t have knowledge. His family owns a landscaping business in county.

the county boundaries are huge. It covers north of 66 up to the Middleburg lines all the way south to Fredericksburg. Marshall falls to Fauquier and the plains to KR, I think. I cannot imagine that daily drive to school.

With a notable exception or two, I subscribe to the belief that if you have the talent, they will find you. Those two exceptions are when the team is so bad with such a terrible talent level that even a superstar is handicapped by that situation. Or if the coaching system, and primarily the head coach, is so corrupt that he doesn’t play the best talent because of political reasons.

His sister went to Fauquier. That drive to St. Francis was a nightmare

Transferring for exposure is a weak and worn out excuse. High school coaches recruit and transfer players in to win. That is the only reason. Many people don't know this; Phoebus lost a highly talented speed demon D1 recruit to Dematha that should have been on the field when they played Magna Vista. He was recruited away following the Stags 24-20 victory over Phoebus. The Phantoms lost twice in one game. Be careful wishing for matches with the WCAC. I cannot overstate how devastating it was for the Phantoms to lose that kid. They were never the same after he left. It was even more devastating to the young man to leave Hampton for Hyattsville. You must judge the pointlessness of that kid transferring against the affect Tahj Boyd had on the landscape of NCAAF and the trajectory of Dabo Swinney's career and contracts.

This never happens.

I fully disrespect and criticize parents and players that leave their hometown schools THINKING it will help them get a scholarship for athletics. If a kid can ball, they will be found.

There were almost 700 guys in the transfer portal before noon today. I totally get the public/private debate. Would like to see the breakdown of home districts for everyone at Providence Day. But scholarships aren't as easy to come by as in years past. I wouldn't blame anyone for wanting the coaches, facilities and education if the opportunity is there to give them the best shot at getting an offer 🤷‍♂️. That's just the nature of the business.
