Is Varina back? Was Norcom out-of-sync completely? Little bit of both? Or Varina by far was just the superior team, even with a host of sophomores?

TBone, I wasn't there, but I wouldn't draw too much of a conclusion from the results. A bad Varina team is a threat to win every week, and they are not a bad team. Norcom had a tall task trying to handle all of the athletes at Varina. I'm confident that Norcom is better than this shutout loss, but I don't have any insight to validate this.

Are you anywhere near the coast where the refuge crisis is so bad? What a horrible situation. The news we are getting back here just makes your heart break. And most of the countries, and especially Greece, just don't have the resources to begin to deal with it.

Stay safe my friend. Thank you as always for what you and all of our military do for us each and every day.

DP, I was wrong to ever think Varina to be "weak," but then again I'm starting to think this might be another down year for Portsmouth schools period, even with Wilson's W last night.

I'm on the beautiful island of Crete brother, and all I'm really at liberty to say is for the Greek, they're holding strong. I'd pulled into this place back in '08 and my first duty station was in Italy in '06 and I can tell you one thing: Mediterranean folks, despite what the media entails, are strong and keep on pushin'. Then again brother, I wouldn't feed too much into what the media is putting out. A year ago I was somewhere else where things were a bit more tense to say the least, and you'd watch the media, and it was emphasized 10 times more. Now, as a former journalism major, to see that made my stomach turn.

But this place is beautiful. The landscape I witness on the daily IS SICK! I was telling folks when I was in Bahrain that when I took R&R and came home to Virginia in December, I missed the foliage and the crisp air from the Atlantic, but man, this place by far, absolutely gorgeous. I may be a bit biased since I love nature.

How's Din looking? That sophomore too-tall with hands you guys got: He should be clocking offers right about now!

I was there. Varina dominated until they took out the starters. Could have scored 60 easy...fumbled on the 1 going in and turned the ball over on downs at the 1.

Pope is every bit as good as advertised. He received his first offer this spring from UVA. That was soon followed by an offer from either NC State, (which I'm pretty sure it was), or UNC. I'm not sure about since then, but he has almost every school at least following his progress.

Dinwiddie is improved from last year, but has some areas that need improvement. Both james Monroe and Hanover ran on us successfully. Changes have to be made to improve the run stop defense. Our offense is potent. Weapons all over the field. But the first two games were all about offense and scoring. Not an acceptable statergy to be a consistent winner. But Coach Mills and his staff will find a way,
I'm certain of that.

We are 1-1, going in to Friday night's game at Caroline. Next week is our bye week.

Enjoy the beauty over there. And yeah, I take all the news media coverage with a big grain of salt. I don't trust or believe 50% of what I see or hear. I'm always suspicious that they are influenced by a bias supporting one position or another. Just be safe and smart, and get your butt back home so you can watch the area games in person.
