Game was played in a constant downpour the entire evening. Northampton was much improved compared to recent years and came fired up to play.
However, the weather definitely was on the side of the underdog (as almost always it is) Northampton. There were at least 12 turnovers, maybe more. Northumberland lost 7 or 8 of them, I lost track.
It was 7-0 with about three min left, NHS driving, 14 yards from the goal line and there were 4 turnovers back and forth in literally less than a minute lol.
NHS had a 32 yard pass TD called back, an easy interception return TD that saw the all alone ball carrier loose control of the ball into the open end zone for a touch back, Northampton's lone TD was a 69 yard fumble recovery. It was a sloppy one for sure but the Indians got the W, which is all that matters in the end.
Northampton fought hard. I hope they have a safe return trip - that is a long time for those boys to ride home completely soaked and many covered in some mud.
The Indians go to 2-0 into an upcoming bye week. Perfect timing to heal up some injuries and continue to get even better for the upcoming battles.
