Let me start by saying Congrats Nottoway. This was the tale of a team that wanted to win and one who didn't. Clarke was lifeless the whole game. Had 4 possessions inside the 20 and couldn't score. Right before half they had it at the 1 and decide to get pass happy. Bad game plan and play calling on Coach Parker. I have never seen a team with no emotion and looked like they quit when they fell behind. Worse than that with 6 minutes to go down 13-2 Clarke's fans decided to leave. Way to support the boys that was pitiful. I am from Strasburg and stayed til the end. If you support them when they win you better do it when they are down the players notice that. Now maybe Clarke will schedule some non cupcake teams for out of district play. Just a shame year in and year out to go out like this. I was way off in my prediction. I am just in shock of the emotions of the team from the opening kick. Not taking anything away from nottoway they played great. Just a disappointed football fan here. All the hype around clarke and they show no emotion or ffight. The Nottoway and King William game next Saturday should be a dog fight.

Let me also say that when you are one dimensional it don't help. When clarke tried to pass it looked horrible. 10-0 regular seasons mean nothing when you can not adapt in the playoffs. Work on the passing game this off season please. The coaches almost got McDonald killed tonight.

Winning the Bull Run District isn't what it once was, I'm sorry to say. Rapp Co. should go ahead and start a district schedule. They will lose by less than they did to the MD Deaf & Blind.

Agreed with you on the password-happy issues on the 1. That's a blown opportunity at momentum. You fail to mention the no-catch call, the snap that rolled back to McDonald, and Nottoway's perimeter speed that gave our guys fits on the edge. Despite Nottoway eventually teeing off on McDonald, the plays at the one should have gone up the middle.

As far as the cupcake comment, I have some rebuttals for you:

1. These kids play the teams on the schedule, but they don't make the schedule.
2. Starting next year, Clarke is playing Handley and Millbrook. For years, the old AA teams would not play us in football because they had nothing to gain and a lot to lose. Hopefully better competition will help these kids prepare. That said, you can't control how good the other program will be when you play them, which leads to the third point...
3. You mention you are from Strasburg. Aren't you calling your own team a cupcake? Aren't you in the same boat? You should know that Stonewall, Warren, and even Strasburg have had great years in the past. Believe me, we would love the competition during the season because it toughens the kids are prepares them for overcoming adversity.

Thanks for coming to the game. Not sure I agree with your comments about people leaving, but I was disappointed the stands weren't more packed in spite of the 25 degree game.

As for Nottoway, they have good perimeter speed on defense, a good I-line, and a slippery tailback. The personal fouls and "actions" of the defensive backs and receivers will likely result in personal fouls in games not officiated by West Virginia referees. Nottoway's coaches need to get that negativity under control before it starts costing them. Someone mentioned their fight with Handley in the playoffs years back. Unfortunately, not playing with class can earn you a reputation.

Best of luck to Nottoway, as they move forward. Kudos and thanks to their fans for making the trip.

That's about the dumbest comments I have ever seen posted. You really think they gave up a run in the state playoffs because want to get started on a basketball team that was maybe .500 last year? What is your occupation?

You are right in that the Bull Run is not what it once was when it comes to competitive football, but Clarke can't be held responsible for that. Can you please petition VHSL to have Clarke moved to the Shenandoah District and to have either Page or Stonewall, or both, moved to the Bull Run? An 8-2 or 7-3 season playing exciting and competitve games before November is much more preferrable than some of the Bull Run district games we had to sit through this year.

Oh how soon they forget...

Wasn't that long ago that Clarke was one of the worse programs in the BRD. Up until 2007 or '08 they just were not very good. They just happen to be having a good run while many of the other BRD schools are in a not so good cycle.

And as far as moving districts, I hope they do as well, but not to the Shenandoah. If they would stop fudging the numbers, they should be in the Evergreen or Northwest.

Now stop whining and let's see what Emmart can do with this bunch on the hardwood.

Please enlighten us on how Clarke is "fudging the numbers." We have one high school in the county, so it's not like we're shifting kids amongst county schools like the were trying to do at Sherando a few years back to stay in the old AA classification.

Exactly, you have one high school in a growing county that cant seem to count past 700. Amazing that your enrollment numbers always hover just below the 3A level. Hmmm......

Sarcasm must not go over well in Madison on a cold morning!!! Probably the same as last year in basketball for Clarke, .500 at best.

Great game played by both sides. Clarke's defense stood tall at times to keep their team in the game. Nottoway always has and always will play with a swagger about them and it's nothing outside the lines. As far as the Handley fight years back two Handley kids initiated that fight and Nottoway had won the sportmanship award that year. Kids seem to have a chip on their shoulder from being the "underdog" week in and week out. Hats off to #9 and whole Calrke team tough team and tough kids.

Gotta' admit, your sarcasm went right over my head. Clarke's new school is very nice by the way.

So no other counties are growing in the state? I can tell you our school enrollment has actually gone backwards in the last 5(?) years. These numbers are reported to the state for funding, so there really should be no mystery or conspiracy.

Lol!!, many of the old timers in the county say its too nice, especially the gym. They are afraid it will entice more families with kids to move to Clarke. Such is life in a county where putting a conservation easement on your land is considered step one for entry to the insiders club.

RoJoHo..take off the orange colored glasses, take a reality pill and stop with the same excuse. I'll not waste the time or energy explaining why you are misinformed. Suffice it to say there is a difference between reported numbers and then the adjusted numbers. I had hopes that the BRD champ would have advanced further but as I have said more than once, the BRD is in a down cycle. But it will return in a few years...I hope.

Strasburg played you all the toughest all year. We were tied and gave up a safety which was the turning point. What I was getting at is the out of district schedule. Glad to see they are getting tougher games now. They probably could have gotten East Rock like we did. To me the loss goes more to play calling than anything else. I have never seen the Bull Run as down as it is. Not sure of records but was Clarke and Strasburg the only teams above the .500 mark.
