Oakton Still Perfect

The Oakton Cougars remained unbeaten by scoring 10 of their 11 runs in two innings to defeat the Madison Warhawks on Saturday. The Cougars scored six runs in the 2nd inning and four runs in the 5th inning to improve their record to 7-0.


A 1st inning sacrifice fly led to the Cougars first run until they broke the game open in the second inning. Joe Rizzo and Cooper Mitchell delivered RBI singles and Jagger James doubled to center scoring two more runs. Connor Jones singled scoring to runs to give Oakton a 7-0 lead.


Madison's Bryan Harthum singled to remove the goose egg off the scoreboard and Oakton pitcher Owen Lamon helped the Warhawks score their next two runs when he hit both Jimmy Goldsmith and Owen Socher with pitches with the bases loaded. The Warhawks trailed 7-3 going into the sixth inning.


Chris Ivener drove in two runs for Oakton with a single during a four run 5th inning. Ivener finished 3 of 3 from the plate with two RBI. Joe Rizzo and Cooper Mitchell both collected two hits while James and Jones both had two RBI.


Lamon pitched the first four innings allowing three unearned runs and four hits. Andrew Greco threw the final three innings without allowing a run.
