Next up on our list of teams to discuss is Chancellor. Coach Oliver had his kids playing well last year. They made the playoffs but ran into a stout Eastern View team that ended their season.

They finished 7-4 last year, and one loss was a close contest against perrenial powerhouse, James Monroe.

Shaunty is high on their possibilities this year. Hopefully he will elaborate? But, I count 24 seniors on last year's squad. That's a large chunk of kids to lose.

I could see another 7-3 regular season, but 6-4 or even 5-5 seems to me to be a more realistic expectation.

So what do you think?

Although they might be losing that many Seniors they return their QB who should compete for Conference Player of the Year.

Ok, you guys up in the Fredericsburg area, share some information on the Chancellor Chargers with us, please.

Speaking of the Fredericsburg area, where is ole Skynard these days?

They did go 7-4 last year and lost to EV in the first round of the playoffs. Unfortunately, there were 4 starters, to include the QB on the sidelines that night due to injuries. NOT an excuse, you play a game when its scheduled with who you have ready to play. Would have liked to see both teams healthy for that one though. May not have changed the out come but it would have been a better game.

The Chargers lost quite a few seniors. I don't count 24 but there is a sizeable number. BUT ... not all of them were starters and they were pretty balanced between seniors and juniors. There is also some good depth and some coming up that are making things look pretty good. There is more than 1 D1 recruit on the roster and don't be surprised if that number doesn't grow over the next couple months. There are multiple possibilities. From what I see at this point, I am optimistic on at least a repeat performance. In the regular season 7-3 is within the realm of possibilities and so is 8-2. The keys to me are how fast these guys jell and staying healthy. I can attest they are working hard!

Man, is it kick off time yet??????

No sir, not kickoff time yet. But by golly it is getting closer by the day, thank goodness!

It sure sounds encouraging for the Chargers and their fans. I know everyone wants to make some noise in the playoffs, but I can list a lot of teams that would just about trade anything for a 7-4 season. So relish the fact that Cancellor is very likely to have another season to be envied.

No offense chancellor fan, not directly towards you at all, but I hear all these teams that have more than one or multiple D1 players on teams , just seems shockingly un real to me. Here at Sherando we are lucky to have one true D-1 player and maybe less than 2 or 3 d2 to d3 players. What are you all feeding these guys? And if you have two to five D1 players, how come the championship rings are not being displayed? if Sherando had more than two D-1 players on any given year, as long as there is a strong supply of solid players to fill the line up- see you in Lynchburg. Fact.

Having D-1 players on the team doesn't necessarily tell me the team is headed to Lynchburg. It takes a complete team to do that. But it does tell me there is some pretty good talent in a position or two. I have seen a Charger team make it to the state semi with three D-1 commits and one go 1-9 with one. So for me, its just an indicator that there is some special talent with some players. Having a coaching staff that works hard getting players in front of college coaches is also key. This year we have no seniors graduating headed to a D-1 school. But, there are four headed to D-2 schools and at least two to D-3. We have one young man, a Junior, that had something like 20 D-1 offers before he committed to Penn State in January. Another has two or three D-1 offers and three young men getting serious recruiting attention from D-1 schools. All of these young men were Jrs on this years 7-4 squad. But, it takes 11 on offense and 11 on defense.

Salem's runner-up squad from '14 had 2 D1 & 5 D1AA athletes. 2015 Championship squad didn't have any D1 or 1AA scholarship athletes. (Unless Ramsey goes to VMI, haven't heard the final verdict yet) Idk how many D1 athletes Lake Taylor had last year, but they came up just short. I've seen teams with amazing talent come up short or even squander it and end up as just an average team. I've seen teams with no real stand out guys go and win it all. Talent has to be used the right way. Also, talent without the hard work can so easily be squandered. It's really a combination of good coaching and hard work by the player and learning to play as a cohesive unit.

Couldn't have said it better!
The Chargers have 4 legit D-1 prospects, the OB, WR, D-lineman and O-Lineman. All being covered by the FLS local paper, had small story about them them the other day. If the chargers overcome the dreaded injury bug, watch out for them this year! this is their year to do something, 2017 will find them going backwards. I am a cougar and hate giving those guys props, but they have a team this year!!
