I think what the OP on the other board was trying to point out is... Alot of the posters over there thought Tazwell would fair well against Riverheads after the game last year and tazwell was supposed to be better this year. And that they was surprised by how easily they got beat. And Tazwell losing to a 0-9 FC takes some of the shine off that win. Not a slight against RH In my opinion but I could be wrong.
Gonna respond here with just a few things, and I don’t want to seem like I’m coming off argumentative.
I promise that no one that actually had watched Tazewell this year (or just understands football at all) thought that Tazewell had a legit chance to win against Riverheads. Obviously you go in to every game hoping the team you root for can have a good showing but the people who pay attention knew that Riverheads was going to roll.
This Tazewell team was not supposed to be better than last years team. Last year’s team graduated 12 seniors and starters, including their top 3 offensive skill players, 4 starting linemen, their starting punter & kicker, & the 2A Region D defensive player of the year. 5 of those players are on college rosters now including Chance Harris who was his team’s leading rusher this season vs. JMU & Austin Peay.
Last year’s senior class was the most talented class to come through Tazewell since 2008. Most started all 4 years. They hung right with Riverheads in that first game. Obviously Riverheads showed to be the better team in that game but it was a heavyweight fight late into the 4th quarter. The fans were treated to a great game.
this season’s Tazewell team starts a freshman at QB, 2 freshmen at wide receivers, one at left tackle and multiple on defense. The only returning player that had started at game at runningback tore his ACL in the benefit game. They lost their best linebacker and best lineman during the season.
my point being though, Tazewell can’t replace those guys from last year and be automatically better. So if you seen someone say that then I promise you they know nothing about Tazewell’s program.
last thing, I’m not sure if you mistyped or had the wrong info but Tazewell won the 5OT game against Fort Chiswell. I was impressed with fort. I know their record looks awful on the surface but if you dig into their games you see they have lost by 1-2 scores in most. They have some talent but can’t seem to get over the hump. I’m sure going deep into July without a coach didn’t help them with that
