Russ Rodriguez, JV coach for last couple of years, will be the new man in charge of the Panthers. Will be different without Coach Purdham on the sidelines, but he has built a tremendous program over the years and had taken Russ under his wing to show him the ropes. Best of luck to both Coach Purdham with everything and to Coach Rodriguez in his new journey with the Panthers.

The girls team also has a new coach this season, EJ Wyant.

Let me chime in here. Mike is like a brother to me and I have always had and will continue to have his back. I hate to see him step aside, but he is doing what he has to do. With that said, Russ will do a fine job as coach and yes, he is stepping into some mighty big shoes.

Like him or not Mike got results and his teams played hard. Nothing but respect for him. Maybe he did get some T's but he was fighting for his team and I would take that any day. I would much rather have that then a coach sitting in his chair not saying anything the whole game.

Big shoes to fill here. What is Mike doing now?

Let me say this, I think he was/is a good basketball coach as far as X's and O'sgo. Getting a technical is one thing, especially when arguing for your team. However, his antics often went way beyond arguing a call. You can support, defend, argue for, etc, your team and not act so demonstrably.

All that being said, I hope Page has a smooth transition.

I am late reading this thread, having concentrated on the football boards. I am surprised to hear of Purdham leaving when it seems like he just got there, or just got back there, so to speak.

I never met the guy personally, but you certainly could not dispute his success or his passion and he had the wins to prove it. As for the antics on the sidelines and all the Ts, I witnessed a few of those here and there and there was a time when I would have joined in the criticism of that. But it has almost become commonplace in sports and when you see the things you do in televised games (case in point Fuente at the Notre Dame game last week) you think it has to be just a matter of time before one of them collapses and dies right in front of us. So if you compare Mike to some of those guys on the higher levels, I think he comes across as pretty tame.

Justifying bad behavior based on other bad behavior is not really a good platform. How would that excuse have worked on your parents?

Oh I wasn't justifying his behavior. If anything I think the whole sports world needs to calm down and keep these emotional tirades under control. There should be rules put in place that let both coaches and players know that if you lose your cool X amount of times or to X degree, then you are out.

Think of that Suh guy from Nebraska......How many times has he been fined since he turned pro for all the stuff he does and he keeps paying the fines and keeps doing what he does. It's like nobody has the power or wants to exercise the power to get rid of him.

As for Mike, as I said, I saw him in action a few times but never felt as if he rose to the levels of some of the stuff you see in college or the pros, so I guess these things must build in intensity as the stakes get higher.

To each his own...I personally have never seen another HS coach act out so demonstrably. But this horse has been thoroughly beaten. There is a new "Marshall" in town at PC.

That guy that used to coach Clark County was pretty wild, can't think of his name.

Emmart still coaches them and he can be a sight to behold for sure. Was there someone before him that liked the antics?
