Patrick Weller, a Riverheads graduate and former assistant coach, has been named the new varsity coach at Riverheads. He describes his appointment as being a "dream job" since he grew up in the area and played at Riverheads in the 1990s.
He will be replacing Chad Coffey, who is moving on to his own "dream job" in the private sector, after serving as Riverheads head coach for nine years and taking the Big Red to the state tournament three of the past four seasons.
Just like with football, Gladiator fans will be looking for the return of a "normal" basketball season after last year's shortened season with limited attendance allowed. Of course the thing RHS fans look forward to every year is a delayed start to the basketball season due to an extended football season, and everyone hopes that will be the case again this year.
Congrats to Coach Weller and best wishes to Coach Coffey in his new endeavor.
