The Culpeper Blue Devils improved their record to 20-2 overall and secured a regional playoff berth for the sixth time in Coach James Thompson's eight seasons at the helm by besting Spotsylvania in the Conference 27 Tournament semifinals on Friday night.
Culpeper was led by 6-foot-5 senior forward Jermaine Butler, who contributed a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Junior guard Luther Gibbs chipped in 16 points. Also recording double-doubles were Anthony Odham-Ford (15Pts. 10Ast.) and K'Swann Johnson (15Pts. 14Reb.) for the Blue Devils.
In defeat for the Knights, senior Darius Carter scored a game-high 28 points. Bilal Marlowe contributed 24 points and helped Spotsylvania pull within two at the end of the third quarter.
Now 20-2 overall, Culpeper will host #2 seed James Monroe in the Conference 27 Tournament Championship on Tuesday night.
