Who are the top teams in the district this year? Who are the top players to watch for? Best Defense and Offense? Who’s going to be a sleeper team in the piedmont this year?

1: gw
2:mv
3:FC
4:HC
5:Bassett
6:tunstall
7:Mville
MV has a great group of guys this year . I think it’s gonna be a combo of talented youngsters mixed in with upper class men. They had a lot of sophomores playing big roles last year so now they’re juniors and should be ready for the bright lights. They will have DISCIPLINE contrary to what dinwiddie and dsh says. Totally different group of kids that are hungry and talented. They will make a run this year.

Too early to tell, but my Warriors could have a great year, they will be young but coachable. These guys will restore character to a MV program that’s been suspect for the last three seasons. I’m hoping Bassett is improved and gets over their losing habit, Brandon is a young coach but capable, they need a Offensive Line that fires out and smacks people in the mouth. GW will be GW, big and fast, athletic but unable to get over the hump at crunch time. All in all it ought to be business as usual in the Piedmont, but maybe we will all be pleasantly surprised.

I think MV will be solid on both sides of the ball. I think Bassett can compete with everyone in the district if they can battle up front. Martinsville has the most talented backfield, but that’s about all they have. GW will probably be the most explosive team in the district but just don’t know how far they can go in the playoffs. I’m picking Bassett to be the sleeper team that will surprise everyone. MV’s defense is going to be young but GREAT.

Danville will have the best offense maybe in all of 4a. Defense and how they handle success/adversity will determine how far they get. I believe MV and FC will be much improved and will give GW a tough game with GW on the road both games. Shades I hope you are right about your Warriors. Too much talent in Ridgeway not to make those deep playoff runs. Coach Johnson is doing big things at Bassett and Halifax should be better. A lot of talent at Bassett and Halifax, just need to learn how to win. Dawgs will be young and I imagine Tunstall and PC struggle.

I believe Halifax will be very good once they get to 4a and get that new facility. They need something to be proud of down there. If they were to ever get behind their program like rural teams like Louisa, Gretna, and Franklin County..CONSISTENTLY.. Halifax will be a special place to be. Lots of talent there! I’ve seen their JV and middle school teams dominate or at least be super competitive and then get to varsity and win 3 games. Something just isn’t right.

Saw a picture on Twitter and Bassett has a massive line. Hope those guys can make some noise this year. It’s been a long time coming for the Bengals. They’ll be back sooner than later in the playoff picture. If you have Twitter you should definitely follow their account. I love what Coach Johnson is doing.

I don't understand how Halifax always struggles. They have a ton of athletes and decent size. They finally turned the corner some last year and they finally had a consistent scheme. I would like to see if they can build off of that this year.

I don't know anything specific about Halifax's personnel, but I think it will be very beneficial for them next year dropping to C4. I hope to see them step up and make some noise. My parents are both from there and I lived there for several years when I was young. I played baseball and I know they were good at that. Back in the day baseball there was much bigger than football. I know they have what it takes to be competitive in many sports they just need to change the culture and the mindset. Dropping to 4 and getting a new stadium (which they have in the works) will hopefully bring them success.

That will leave Franklin Co, (6) William Fleming, and Patrick Henry (5's) as the only SWVA (Roanoke, Lynchburg, NRV, Southside, and real SW) as the only schools above 4 in our area. In most sports those 3 teams could play in C4 and they wouldn't really have any advantage. They don't generally see big schools in most sports until the playoffs. That is a big disadvantage, although I like the enrollment setup. (Most fair way to handle things)
