Per VHSL Facebook page:

We have an update to the Class 3 playoff bracket. In Region B, #8 Warren County has elected not to play #1 Goochland in the first round. Independence will take their place. The game will still be played at 7:00 pm Friday at Goochland High School.

Warren County only has 23 healthy players and, in the best interest of its players, let Independence play in its place as the #8 seed.

Interesting. Well, good for the Tigers. They get to the postseason in their first year.

More writing on the wall. I’ll be pretty surprised if eleven-man football is still in widespread existence in Virginia high schools a decade or so from now.

I would totally agree based on issues down here too.

They had significantly more than 23 players on Friday night. Clearly something happened between Friday and Monday. Hopefully, just a temporary glitch.

Independence only lost to James Wood by 10. Next year when they have seniors I would not be surprised if they were very competitive in the region.

Vhsl got to make money. Plus, it will be a nice change of pace for Goochland to play a Class 3 school.

The VHSL had no involvement in this. This was strictly a decision by the Region.

Schoolboard, as I understand it, a team meeting was held, and a vote was held, and the team voted to forgo the playoff spot. Highly unusual, I agree. But I believe that many of the players you may have seen were JV's.
I'm not sure I agree with the team decision, but I respect them for making a tough decision and, for allowing the players to have a voice.

Independence has an uphill battle, but they are not a bad team. Goochland better not dismiss them and be looking ahead.

Thanks for correcting me when I know the whole story and was trying to keep it off the web. A significant number of players left the team between Friday night and Monday, not due to injury.

I don't know anything about Warren County, the coach or the team, but the qb (Post) is the type of kid I would want playing for my team or working for me. To quote an old coach of mine "I would want him in the foxhole with me". This kid gets it. Not only that, but he owns it for his teammates. If anybody knows Bryce Post tell him thanks for being a standup kid. He has a bright future ahead.

There is a lot of pressure on both coaches and kids. And it comes from all of us. So instead of adding to that situation when we don't know exactly what was said or not said, how about we just hope everything calms down and everyone regroups in the future.

Just sad, back in the day it was all about trying to get into the playoffs, record aside, shouldn't have just gave up the game, a lot of players in the past that have played for Skyline and Warren would have done anything for 1 more game.

And you just summed up the issue in your first sentence. It's not "back in the day" anymore. Today's world is WAY different for players/coaches/teachers and not in a good way. Just go on twitter for 5 min and see coaches getting filmed for celebrations with kids after games and/or rants after losses. Constant ridicule and blasting from people. Nothing is sacred and left in the locker rooms anymore. Crazy amount of scrutiny from outside sources such as social media/travel/AAU/and lastly PARENTS for all sports. The amazing thing to me is it is my generation that has allowed the kids to feel so much entitlement and softness and lack of mental toughness. We as parents don't allow kids to be told the truth for whatever reason. It's OK to be told that wasn't good enough or you didn't do that right. The world doesn't stop when feelings are hurt and welcome to life outside high school. Sports used to be the greatest life lesson for kids growing up.....Not so much the case anymore. We don't do a good job of getting kids ready for the real world as PARENTS and don't let others help.
Bottom line is when those kids came home to their parents and said what transpired after the game---the PARENTS enabled those kids to pull this as opposed to teaching them about life in general.
I wish the best of luck for the Warren football program moving forward and hope that things get better quickly

Thats typical Goochland to play a weak schedule and be undefeated until they get blown out in playoffs.
When did Goochland get blown out in the playoffs? Yes they lost to your Raiders in the state semis once, but they won 3 playoff games to get there. Last year they won 4 playoff games on the way to the state title game. I'd wager that they have won more playoff games in the past decade than your team.

Impartial third party here. Your post piqued my curiosity, so I checked the history of these two fine programs. Playoff wins, 2009-2018:
Goochland - 23
Appomattox - 20
