Seems like season just started and we are two games away from playoffs. Can Appomattox do a "four peat" ? In our region there are Glenvar, Radford and Gretna to challenge. Appomattox just dispatched Gretna. Not saying that Gretna couldnt get them down the road but outside of this region who are the challengers this year? How strong are Radford and Glenvar?

Yes, Appo can an will do a fourpeat. I got the Raiders by 2 TDs this year over all of em.

You have a right to your opinion but 2 TDs is a little too confident IMO. Glenvar was driving to take the lead on the Appo side of the field later in the 4th and had all the momentum until a turnover. Well..Glenvar got almost everyone back so I think this years game if it happens, will be another great game.

Who is Ridgeview? Is that one of them kentucky schools? Teams to watch out for is Appo and Glenvar. Maybe Erocks or Paqousin. I got Appo 2 TDs better then all of em

Be a troll, its dumb, but we see it from time to time, but dont purposely disrespect teams by spelling their name wrong on purpose. Someone has been sent to the penalty box for that exact reason this year

I think central should be in discussion

I believe there are at least 10 who at the moment should be in discussion, and a few who have the capability.

A: Amelia, Goochland, Poquoson
B: Central Woodstock and East Rockingham
C: Appomattox and Glenvar
D: Graham, Ridgeview, and Union

Also have to give some love to Radford, Gretna, Richlands, and possibly if they get hot some of the Shenandoah teams

As you already know I see him as an embarrassment to the Raiders.
Isn't Ridgeview a combo of two and one of the two is the old Clintwood? Is that correct? I was told they are tough. Also didn't they lose to a fairly good higher classified team. Just asking.

Ridgeview from what I'm hearing will be a tough out for teams. They killed Union I think but Union isn't what they were last year I know.

I saw the Gretna/Appomattox game last week. Appomattox was impressive to be considered a young team. They will be tough but the passing game could be an issue later on. Havn't seen Glenvar but we all know that is a tough out year end and out. Radford could be a sleeper as well. Just guessing and thinking out loud.

Yes that is a definite area to improve. The quarterback just turned 15 that week so he has a lot to learn and growing to do, for his age though I think he is doing well. Receivers could help him more by catching those that hit them in the hands, although a few have made great catches this year at times.

That was an impressive 15 year old. He handled himself and ran that offense like an honor roll senior.

Ridgeview is a consolidated school made up of all 3 of Dickenson Co's former high schools(all 1A)...Clintwood, Haysi, and Ervinton. Although Ervinton had already been folded into the other 2 schools a few years prior to Ridgeview opening. Clintwood was a storied school with 4 state championships(last in 2011) and a few other appearances. Haysi made semi-final appearances the last 2 years of existence.

They have great coaches and a sophomore RB with several P5 D1 offers. They will be a tough out for any school in the playoffs. They did lose to 3A Abingdon Friday in a somewhat controversial game. Abingdon travels to Union in 2 days to decide the Mountain 7 championship as well as the possible #1 seed in 2D.

The Abingdon/Union game will be televised live by WCYB out of Bristol, VA.

It was 27-14 Ridgeview. Union's D definitely isn't as strong as last year. Offense is different because our QB is back from his injury, but is outputting about the same level of production.

At this point I still believe that D is a 3-way race between Ridgeview, Graham, and Union and we may not know for sure who is best until the final whistle of the Regional Championship game. I wouldn't be surprised whatsoever by any of the 3 winning. I also have no clue if any are capable of wining the semi-final against the 2C champion.

Graham is the clear favorite after what I saw last Thursday. Neither of us can compete with them.

Don't lose faith in the Mountain 7 brother! haha

I haven't seen Graham in person so they may very well clean both our plows, but I don't think the Richlands game was as good a indicator of Graham's ability as it normally would be. The game being in Bluefield with the events at Richlands that week coupled with Richlands having almost zero speed led to a perfect storm in Graham's favor.

And Graham isn't going to have any competition from here until the 2nd round of the playoffs to assess them further.Regardless of who makes it out of D, I will be cheering them on in the semi-final.

I've seen every game Graham has played. Richlands wasn't going to beat them regardless with the Graham team that showed up Thursday night. I'm sure Richlands could have played better and had a lot on their minds but Graham's defense shutdown Moir and Horn completely and that's not an easy task. It's the best I've seen Graham play all year. Playmakers all over the field, great play calling, and much more disciplined than previous outings. I also attended Ridgeview/Union game. Thursday night's Graham team can compete with both. Like most, I think Region D should belong to one of three and I will cheer whomever it is in the state semis from our region.

If a team can’t pass it’s going to be very hard to beat Glenvar in my opinion. They are to good against the run. I don’t think they are that dynamic on offense but they make very few mistakes and rely on the D.

Wouldnt surprise me if they did 4-peat. But this seems like their weakest team out of the last 4 years. Just looking in as an outsider. There definitely are a few teams out there that can dethrone them. Would love to see them match up with Graham.

Appo will 4 peat because even with all things equal on the field with Glenvar, ERock and maybe Central and Poquoson, there is still the coaching gap. Appo is 4-7 pts better than the rest, but in the big game and big moments Doug Smith equals 7 more points. I really think Appo takes the crown this year by 2 TDs and I ain't trollin. I truly do believe it. I told u what would happen to Gretna. If we beat Glenvar in game 3, we 4peat.

Just curious, have you ever played organized football in your life or were you maybe the manager?

Appomattox has ONLY one team on it's mind right now and that is the Altavista Colonels. Coach Cox is doing a good job at Altavista in his first year and will have his team fired up. One game at a time " Agent 03".

Looking at some film on Philpott, I would tend to agree on the defensive prowess of Glenvar. Didn't the same QB come back for Glenvar? He was pretty good if I remember correctly.

Yes.one of our senior leaders. His passing has improved dramatically since last year. Teams can't just play the run like last year. He is also a really tall/big qb which means he sees the field real well so he is making good decisions.

If you want to see total domination, watch some of the plays with Philpott lined up in the backfield as a lead blocker. Would be a scary sight coming right at a db or linebacker. I think Giles saw it at least once.
