PM Question

For all the Blues fans.....I personally think that it is awesome that yall have not 1 but 2 backs with over 1000 yards rushing. Does your quarterback throw the ball at all? Once a game? Twice a game? Or what? I am certainly not being critical because I have not seen them play in several years (actually since the last time yall came to Atown). The Colonels are VERY well balanced and do some of both. I'm just curious what we can look for on Friday.

Thanks in advance....

They will throw it maybe 4 times a game. Against AltaVista, if they want to compete, they will have to throw it more. More importantly, they will need to throw on 1st down and not when its 3rd and long.

Maybe not always picked off, but Altavista db's swarm to the ball quickly....

Thanks bballfan. I guess with the 2 running backs they really don't have to throw very much.

The only chance PM has against Altavista is if they don't throw it. That means they are having success running the ball and the clock to keep the ball away from AV. If they cant get first downs and shorten the game, and they have to start doing what they dont do well it be lights out. That's not a crack on PM at all, i like their style of football and i was impressed when i saw them against Auburn, but they dont have the athletes on defense (especially in their secondary) to stop AV very often.

Agreed. I think they need to force a couple AV turnovers and capitalize on them as well.

They've been successful thus far with their run game. I say you dance with what got you there.

The most important thing is for them to score. Look at Central Lunenburg, controlled the clock for the first six minutes of that game, then dropped a fourth down pass conversion. One-play and Altavista's up 7-0. Second drive, the Chargers moved the ball some but then fumbled. Two plays later the Colonels score again, 13-0 Altavista. The Charges had the ball for like 11 of the 13 minutes of play but trailed 13-0.

Yes they cannot have mistakes like that. For an underdog to win a game like this they almost have to be mistake free. Sounds like lunenburg did what they needed to do minus those mistakes.

This will be a true test of speed vs. power. IMO, probably 2 of the best coached teams in the state at any level. I don't expect either to change things up very much. I will say Vista will have a damn hard time stopping Dawson. PM is a physical team, maybe more so than Vista, but does not posses the raw athletic ability that Vista has. My take is coaching is equal, offenses equal, but Vista has the advantage on defense and I think that's what wins this game. It would be very interesting to see what would happen if Vista was to fall behind early, how would they react? I know, it's a longshot. But PM will score points.

I have no information of PM coach, but for Mike Scharnus, he has coached in I believe 5 State Title games and has won 3 of them. Not sure if the PM coach can say the same so until you can tell me he has the record Scharnus has I'll say your incorrect on coaching is equal. Also, I'm guessing you've not seeing the Johnson brothers and Brown kid from Altavista not to mention Thornhill? Their the hardest hitting kids in the Dogwood on 1 team so I'd say it's Speed, Power, Coaching vs to me I've heard all PM has is power. So I'll be glad to see PM for my self since I've not seen them in a few years. Good luck to both teams.

Scharnus seems to be a great coach, but he has some serious talent. PM is not as athletically gifted. Their coaches do a damn good job with what they have to work with. I've seen both teams several times. I stand by my opinion. Not sure what you are getting at, but Vista does not pound the ball, maybe because they don't need to since they have tremendous speed. PM does. That is what my post is about.
Speed vs Power

Scharnus is a great coach. Altavista had years of mediocrity and worse than that prior to him leading them. They still had great athletes and had been to the highest levels in basketball. Almost 60 wins over the past 5 years is pretty good no matter what level of talent you have.
