Hopefully not, I hate to see anyone injured, I wish I had waited on someone else to say something just seemed like a breaking story, forgive the pun.If what you said is true about Peoples injury, it makes me sick to hear something like that happen to a very
good football player. May the Lord be with him and his teammates. Hopefully the injury is not as bad as reported. God Bless to all in Galax.
He went down first series and is done for the rest of the year. Things like this happen in the game of football unfortunately. You have a Bland team that only won (3) games and in the playoffs (for some reason) and on the other side you have a legitimate contender to win the state title and now that team is down their best player. Again it is football and it does happen but seeing it happen last night and given the totality of the circumstances it kind of makes you sick. I think Galax is still the team to beat (in the west) and #14 is certainly not chop liver IMO. The thing(s) that impressed me about #1 is he was not only a very good running back but a great blocker and play maker on both sides of the ball. He was not selfish at all as so many are at that age and level. He will be missed for sure but as the saying goes NEXT MAN UP and I do not think there is a coach out there that embodies that philosophy like Dixon. They (Galax) will be well prepared and ready to do battle come Friday and that is something we can count on. I certainly hope everything works out well in the future for #1. Good luck to him and ROLL TIDE!!!Did #1 Galax break his foot?
Hate to hear about injuries like that especially this time of the year. Will he be returning next year or was this his senior year?He went down first series and is done for the rest of the year. Sorry to hear that. Any plans for playing next level? He is a senior.
This is why I have an issue with some regions getting a bye while others do not, having winless/less than average teams in the playoffs, etc. but we cannot change it this year or next I suppose, but I certainly hope that the next cycle brings changes to the regional structures. Personally, I'd like to see the top 12 from the East on one side and top 12 from the West on the other (with or without cross bracketing, as I have no preference on that). That way each side has the opportunity to earn a first round bye, and you get rid of 8 teams that basically have no reason to be in the playoffs. He went down first series and is done for the rest of the year. In the first round of the playoffs, the top 2 seeds in Region 1B get a bye, while the top 2 seeds in 1A,1C, and 1D do not. Region C #2 seed Galax loses their best player on the first series in a round 1 matchup vs a 3 win team, meanwhile region B #2 seed William Campbell has the night off.I remember the name from last year's Riverheads game down at Galax. He seemed to be in on everything. Tough break for the team.
Keith, I am not sure I understand the connection you are making between his injury and the playoff system.........????

It's not my intention to hijack this thread with what I think should happen in the playoffs, but this is a prime example of why it needs to change, particularly at the 1A level.
Maybe he’s saying the kid should of never been on the field in the first place. Galax had just beat Bland 70-7 a couple of weeks prior.I remember the name from last year's Riverheads game down at Galax. He seemed to be in on everything. Tough break for the team.

Probably would have just played some of the first quarter like he did the first time they played, just enough to keep him sharp.Maybe he’s saying the kid should of never been on the field in the first place. Galax had just beat Bland 70-7 a couple of weeks prior.
I don't hate this proposal, but I did try to find the flaws. 1A would have 35 teams, 2A would have 65, split 3A would have ~47 each, and split 4A would have ~58 each. Sixteen playoff teams would be perfectly ideal for 3A, a bit generous for 1A, and perhaps too selective for 2A and 4A.Let me get out the drum sticks and start beating the drum again..
1-400 =1A
401-750=2A
751-1450=3A/3AA (split the division evenly or as close as possible)
1451-Above=4A/4AA-5A (see 3A/3AA)
Six divisions, 16 team playoff for each division - top 8 from East get in and top 8 from West get in, no byes.
This would almost certainly eliminate teams with losing records from getting in and eliminate the garbage time games like what Galax had to put up with last night.
Sorry for your loss Maroon Tide. Wish you gentlemen the best of luck this upcoming week.
I hate to see any kid get hurt, especially a senior. He ran harder than any Back I’ve seen all year. First man there hardly ever brought him down. Good luck to y’all.Probably would have just played some of the first quarter like he did the first time they played, just enough to keep him sharp.
As already stated, it is a doggone shame that the kid got hurt. But football injuries are going to happen when they happen and I just can't see anything to be gained by blaming the playoff system or saying that the VHSL should be "held responsible" for an injury that occurs in a meaningless game.
However, I do very much understand the frustration some folks feel over one region having so many fewer schools than others. But as I have mentioned before on here, until somebody can find a way to geographically "square up" this state of ours and build a bunch of new schools that all have the same number of students, there is just not going to be a solution that will satisfy everyone.
Yeah but you say everybody is going to beat Galax...hahahaPM has a bad reputation with the refs and that hurts them. I noticed GW got away with a lot more than PM did, the refs felted sorry for GW I think.
Galax is a very different team than GW, I think this is going to be a very good game.
These are the two hardest hitting defenses I have seen this year.
Galax’s o and d line is big and bruising.
Galax's #14 will get 100 yards and two scores in this game but i don't think it will be enough.
Motion penalties on Galax have hurt all year and will outweigh the personal fouls from PM.
PM's #5 leaves it all on the field, the other backs are a good combo, power & speed.
PM’s runs a zone pass defense at times and can be confusing to the QB.
I think PM pulls it out, PM 26 Galax 22.

Just giving you a hard timeEvery now and then it happens
I agree containing #14 has a lot to do with how this game goes, I think he is key, if they hold him to 2 & 100 their chances are good, if he goes 4tds 200 the maroon tide rolls on.Galax has attempted 95 passes through 11 games with 21 of those coming this past Friday night against Bland. I'm not certain PM's pass defense is going to be a factor unless they can stop the running game.
Very few teams have succeeded in doing that in Dixon's tenure!

He has already had several carries this year and has been very productive when he has carried the ball, if he stays healthy he has a bright future.#14 won't be going at it alone. #20 is going to be the next great back for Galax. His time is just going to start a little earlier than his sophomore season.

He has had carries other than in 68-0 games, he carried the ball more than anybody did in the jamboree against 3a competition and done really well. I know the jamboree doesn't mean anything before you bring it up but the point is he run the ball very well against descent competition .Getting carries that matter as a first or second stringer is far different than getting carries in a 68-0 game in the third quarter. But Keaton will be fine. He is a flatliner.
