Bull Islander player Nate Ward suffered a head injury last night during their game against Jamestown. I don't have any specifics of how the injury occurred, but it's my understanding that Nate was in surgery until after 2:00AM this morning.

Through all of the bickering and bantering that goes on here on VAPREPS, (some of it is good natured fun), but things like this makes us all remember that they're kids, playing a game, that can be extremely dangerous at times.

Best wishes and many prayers to the Bull Islander community!

May God bless this young man, the team and community. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.

All my prayers are with him and fellow BRD Poquoson team, parents and fans. Did not see any mention in DP- hopefully an update tomorrow.

Thanks for the link, gwb. That article sums up all that is frightening, and all that is wonderfully positive about our beloved game, all in one short report.

Our prayers will continue to be with the family and the community, but especially with Nate.

I'm very proud and unsurprised at the community's response. Nate will go on to do great things outside of football.

He comes from a great family, I won't be surprised to see him coaching in the future...it runs in the family!

I'm just so thankful to hear that he's on the way to a good recovery. This could have been much worse.

Just read the article and I'm praying for a speedy recovery. After all, this is just a game. These kids are the future and that is most important.

The last I heard was that the kid is progressing very well. This coming from a Daily Press tweet.

gwb, or anyone else, do you have any late news?
Hey DP, according to a Blog Post on the Daily Press, he has been up walking and is regaining some of his memory (his dad stated that). I'm just happy that the young man is improving. That's a scary situation, regardless of how your child got there.

And I just found out that he will most likely be going to a rehab center this afternoon. Doc's are extremely pleased with his progress.

I think we can all breath out now. I know there are still hurdles ahead, but the news is so much better than it could be. Thanks for the update, guys.
