Poquoson vs West Point

Sooo, they scored vs the 1st or 2nd team?
It was 7-7 against the starters and then Poquosons quarterback went on a ambulance I hope he’s okay and they pulled thier starters and West Point couldn’t hit thier 2nd string qb. But after doing 10 plays offense twice they played two full quarters and Poquoson played thier starters most of the time in that

The following post below was made nearly 1 year ago today when these two teams scrimmaged. The post was made by a West Point fan with the screenname "Twobyfour" The discussion was similar to what it is now......

"I am sure everyone on the WP side left the game with a great deal of confidence. WP controlled both lines imo, and would likely have won the game had it actually counted. Now there were many mistakes by both teams as expected, and I have no way of knowing what Poq objectives were, or if they had all their starters etc. It seemed Wp outgianed them on offense and bottled them up on defense. Poq only score came on a busted play, botched handoff exchange when their qb kept the ball and just happened to take off thru the gap where Wp left due to the fact they only had 10 guys on the field. Again, this is just my observation and summary, and after the last two seasons in which they have not had the success many had thought they should.

Folks, Coach Duty shows nothing, zilch in scrimmages. He never has. It's why I never go and see one when Poquoson plays. Poquoson went to the state semi's last year and you can see the quote above with last years West Point scrimmage. It's incredibly similar to this years. Make nothing of it, trust me. I don't know if Poquoson has ever "won" or what seemed to be, "getting the best of their opponent" in a scrimmage game at any point in Coach Duty's history as Coach. He shows nothing, and focuses strictly on fundamentals and seeing which of the young kids can step up and play. When the season starts and the game counts, they are a different beast and the full version of the Wing T is let loose. Dive Right and Dive Left are typical in the Islanders scrimmages.

First, prayers to the injured Poquoson player for a quick recovery.

The four WP scores were as follows:
79 yard TD run
18 yard TD run
70 yard TD run
63 yard TD pass/reception

Not taking anything away from Poquoson, but I believe WP did a little better than just holding their own considering WP dressed 17 and Poquoson probably dressed over 30. Two of WP's backs combined for at least 300 yards rushing against Poquoson, and no, not all 300 yards were against Poquoson's 2nd team (although it must be nice to have enough players to have a 2nd team). WP's D stuffed Poquoson inside the 5 yard line on 4 consecutive plays during a 10 play segment before Poquoson punched it in from the 1 yard line. WP's D forced Poquoson to punt twice in the 2 quarters of play. WP is only returning a handful of starters from last season, so arguably, WP did very well with a young team playing ironman football against Poquoson. Best of luck to both teams this year.

Best of luck to West Point on the season. The Pointers weren't shabby last year either. West Point was 8-2 in regular season if I recall and lost a nailbiter in the playoffs. It sounds like the Pointers are going to be pretty dang tough again. With only returning a handful of starters, it sounds like WP did more than very well last evening. It sounds like they are going to cause some serious problems for people for the season. Best wishes to West Point.

Makes sense Poquoson isn’t showing anything on offense. Still very cool to see the alma mater offense taking it to the Islander defense!

I spoke to a friend that was at the scrimmage and he said that despite the low numbers, WP has some pretty big kids. Both running backs were tough to bring down and one of them was surprisingly fast for how big he was - according to him he was the best player on the field. If what he says is true, barring injury, WP should roll through their schedule with King William being their toughest opponent. You never know how the low numbers will impact a team. I hope they all stay healthy.

Rappahannock (warsaw) Colonial Beach and King William will all be tough opponets with all 3 being road games also. Barring injury like you said, they should do well with the rest of their schedule.
