Powhatan/Goochland benefit game

It was 21 to 14 at half with Powhatan leading. Powhatan had a nice running game and a little mix of some passes as well. Goochland had some success on the ground but Reid Chenault hit Cordell Mattox twice on long touchdown passes. Both teams started the second half with starters. Goochland had a long return on the opening kickoff of the second half and scored on 4th and one to even the score 21 to 21. Powhatan had to punt on their opening offensive possession of the second half and both teams played backups the remainder of the second half except for special teams. Good experience for both teams......

Goochland pretty much owned Stuarts Draft and were even with Waynesboro at the Jamboree. Chenault hit some long TD passes there as well. Expecting big things from Goochland this year.

Goochland looked like a very diminsional team with many weapons. Defensively the 3-3 stack kept Powhatan guessing, although the Indians drove straight down the field on the opening drive. Special teams play and overall team speed a plus for the Bulldogs. Lack of pass coverage by the Indians the minus. Looks as if Powhatan may have some success with many offensive threats this year which will be a totally different look from Logan Allen left and Logan Allen right. Overall a very competitive and sharply executed game by both squads. Powhatan travels to Collegiate this Friday for a scrimmage and opens up at home on Thursday Sept. 3 with Midlothian.
