OK guys, here is my top teams for 2017, Pre Season. I had no idea were these picks come from,

This is no offense to anyone or the team of their choice. But I don't think Honaker or Hurley will be near the top this season. Both are in rebuilding stages.

Yeah, both Honaker and Hurley lost several real good players, espically Hurley. Honaker
Was real young last year, but returns several good players, and they always have about
60 players on their squad. I don't think Hurley will match last year, but they will probably
field a decent Team. Honaker just may surprise a lot of folks this year, and with their
tradition and numbers They will be a pretty solid team imo.
I think Honaker and Chilhowie will scrimmage again this year, so those two teams will
Probably be a good test for both squads. Chilhowie is putting Bermuda grass on their
Field, so the scrimmage will probably be at Honaker. Chilhowie does not have the
resources that some have to have artificial truf, so they will play on dirt and grass. Imo,
Poor boys can play the game just like the kids from the more " affluent " schools.

Just asking with your 2A poll, what do you consider west lol, I know Appomattox graduated a bunch, but 30 game win streak and back to back state titles and not even a mention in 2A West Top Ten?

Included, then put them #1! No argument here. I was thinking SW District, Mountain,
and Three Rivers as West.

Haha I figured you were talking Southwest Va Football! No worries there! In 1A/2A it's almost like SWVA football is its own brand/league with the rabid fan bases and tight knit communities around the teams!

It is quite interesting and fun to see how the different regions of the state really get reflected in the area sports, even down to how I think most teams and fan bases define themselves, for example, I've been all over small schools from central va, northern va, southside va, and down to the southwest portions of va, each area really has its own identity and feel that makes it special. Southwest VA always reminded me of say the SEC bc 1) football is king in the region 2) they really sort of, a whole, love a blue collar brand of football (though Richlands and others can certainly throw the rock) 3) they all root for each other even when it comes to the playoffs, I've seen more SWVA fans on Twitter or here pulling for SWVA teams bc that's who they relate to and it's like them against the world almost (similar to say Tennessee fans chanting S-E-C when Bama wins another one). It's just a very unique and distinct culture to the region. Me, I'm a Buckingham boy, and I respect Coach Smith a lot, but you can best believe I'd never root for our neighbors to the West in the state title game (love them as people but can't bring myself to do it lol)

That was one heck of a game though. The place was packed. I'd love to see another game like that between them this year, but Draft lost some darn good players to graduation. I doubt the Cougars will be nearly as competitive this year. They had a good run.

Maybe people want to see RH fall because of the attitude shown above??

"Relative" is a hard word to comprehend. RH is a VERY good football program RELATIVE to their 1A counterparts. Nothing more.....nothing less.

To be fair, Riverheads only beat teams by 40 points in the playoffs.

I do have to agree that it sure did look like SD thought that game was their Super Bowl last year. I would also reference a ton of social media noise that would back that up. I wouldn't be offended by that. At one point RHS had to get over some humps on the way to what they are now and even some more during this run of championships.

Sure Richlands and Appomattox are tough teams. They are the best of 2A. But as RHS showed during their stint in 2A, they can compete with those teams just the same.

Finally, let's not be crazy and think RHS is the only fanbase that has some vocal morons. Everyone has em, winning tends to highlight them while they scream how right they were. I heard from a lot more arrogant SD fans last fall than I had in years past.

That RH@SD game was unreal. SD won that night and it sure looked and felt like a super bowl atmosphere for both teams and fans. RH came back after that and ran past everybody to claim a state championship. Maybe there is such a thing as a good loss. SD rolled for a couple of weeks also and then lost a heartbreaker. According to schedules RH plays again at Draft this year on September 8th as opposed to what had been the last game of the year for several years I believe. Fans will be fans and every team has a few bad ones. I've seen it in every sport. Enjoy the games, root for your team, respect all teams, they play for pride, not money.

PM may not be State Champion Team but DO NOT SLEEP ON THE BLUES!!! We lost two running backs, one of which doubled as a linebacker (A DANG GOOD ONE) the other a "Filler"... Believe it or not, THE BLUES WILL BE FASTER THIS YEAR THAN LAST.... I have no desire to pick "Top Ten's" or "Five"s" but I do think the Blues will be a top (5) team in the West.. I know, I know.. that's just "My opinion", LOL!!! I agree, it will be an interesting season.... Our Offense/Defense line is basically a mirror of last season. Our biggest problem was from the linebackers to the safety... And, not that "we couldn't", we just "didn't" throw the football AND WE SHOULD HAVE.... A LOT!!! We did not use the weapons we had to our advantage, typical "Blues Football"?? Yuup.. I do believe that will be a different scenario this year... This should be fun...

I didn't say there wasn't fans from every area that are bad, and yes it was quite the game last year that could have gone either way, but I certainly know I wasn't arrogant on here or anywhere else for that matter, but I do know that beating Riverheads last year wasn't SD goal, winning a state championship was. And yes Riverheads did do well in 2A, but they didn't win a championship in 2A. And before anyone gets their feelings hurt, that isn't a knock on them. Riverheads is playing in the classification they should be playing in by the numbers. But it is incredibly short sighted to think that just because SD beat Riverheads in a classic game that that game was their Super Bowl. Of course the team and fans wanted to beat them, as I am sure Riverheads did as well, and it was the final game of regular season with both teams 9-0 in a rivalry game, of course it was a crazy atmosphere. I just find it crazy that because the game went the way it did that the game was their Super Bowl. And while I was cheering on Riverheads to win a state championship, its absolutely ludicrous to think they would have fared the same in 2A.

And to this post from @Xcross, Stuarts Draft isn't even a 1A team, so there was no reason for them to be brought up in the conversation. Like I said, I remember the whining after the SD/RH game last year and the excuses, so it certainly looks like sour grapes and still bitter about it when bringing it up months later. Nobody knows what the season will hold this coming year, and SD did lose a lot and certainly can slip off this year, but none of that has to do with last year and just because Riverheads lost a game doesn't mean that was the most important game of the season for SD. I would be willing to bet that SD would have traded that win against RH to win a state championship

Same to you man much respect. And I know the Blues are gonna be tough again this year. I just didn't have them in my top 5 for 1 reason I didn't know exactly what they had coming back. Hell the Wheeler kid alone almost gets them at top 5 nod imo. That young man is a freak at LB. Best of luck to your BLUES this season.

Did I poor gas on an open wound or just hit a little sore spot ? Riverheads played that game without their key players due to injuries . The playoffs was their focus , not SD . The way the Draft celebrated it was easy to see where their focus was . The Draft fans and even the media was all about their one point win over The Red Team . Riverheads is the best team in 1A and is better than 95 percent of 2A teams . I don't think any team in 1A or 2A could beat Appo the last two seasons . jmo
If Draft wants to win it all they better focus on the mental part of the game . Or put all their eggs in a basket to beat The Red Team and be satisfied with that . Good luck to them this season . Go Big Red !!!!!!!!!!!

Three of the years you were not even the best team in the county as Wilson and Draft beat you during those seasons. We play in a higher division so who knows where those teams may have ended up at the end. Hey, keep crowing about winning titles over schools that are much smaller than you. The rest of us will have to beat teams like Appo, Richlands, Giles, Dan River, Clarke, Goochland and many other very good teams to earn a State title.

No question, Riverheads is the best team in Augusta. They've proven it. I personally think Riverheads should be playing 2A though and the cutoff should be 450. Of course if VHSL does that, Riverheads enrollment will magically become 449. Seriously, I'm a Gladiators fan.

You whine and complain last year when the game happens, then go out of your way to bring up Riverheads winning a title last year while degrading Stuarts Draft (who isn't even part of this discussion) to say it was Stuarts Draft's Super Bowl. What exactly is the point and rationale in that? So in your oh so deep mind, Riverheads was on SD mind when they were playing Richlands? You see Stuarts Draft won the game last year, so they don't have the open wound as you say. You see, Stuarts Draft lost 1 game last year by a total of 1 point to the state runner up in 2A. And again with this celebrating thing, so you are telling me that Riverheads wouldn't have been celebrating if they won a rivalry game in an extremely close and exciting game? That is absolutely absurd to think that. You see the goal in a football game is to win, and ultimate goal is to win all of your games on the way to a championship.

And who knows what would have happened if Riverheads "key players" had played, even though some of them did play, that is still whining and making excuses as to why you didn't win. I haven't ever gotten on here and whined about losing a game. It has never been we lost because of this or that or we got cheated etc. I may have had an opinion that the better team or more deserving team didn't win, but that is an opinion that could very well be wrong. But yeah I did that because I had an axe to grind and an open wound because of last year. Now you have really hurt my feelings ! If you would have watched TV3 and the way he team and fans reacted to their Super Bowl victory and comments by the SD administration , It was clear they were satisfied with wining that game . Their season was complete . When a team climbs a mountain and celebrates reaching the top, only to find when the clouds lift that the summit is much higher , Its hard to find the energy to the climb to the top ! I hope SD has a good season but remembers you play the first season to reach the second . Not sure what kind of team Riverheads will have but my guess is they will be in practice on Thanksgiving . Go Big Red !!!!!!!!!

This Riverheads fan rooted all the way for SD to also make it to Salem, so we could have the doubleheader games. To my knowledge that has never happened (two county teams playing the same day in Salem). So I was devastated when I heard that they had lost that game to Richlands.

I am a little disappointed with the upcoming season to see the RHS/SD game played so early and to see it played again at SD, but I understand that it is a different cycle and that sometimes that requires teams to play consecutive years on the same field. The Gladiators also go back to Buffalo Gap this year, but it will all balance out the following year when both schools, not to mention Wilson, will have to travel to Greenville.

As for X Cross having his feathers ruffled, or ruffling others as the case may be, that has been going on so long that we couldn't have this board without it, could we?

Now you have really hurt my feelings ! If you would have watched TV3 and the way he team and fans reacted to their Super Bowl victory and comments by the SD administration , It was clear they were satisfied with wining that game . Their season was complete . When a team climbs a mountain and celebrates reaching the top, only to find when the clouds lift that the summit is much higher , Its hard to find the energy to the climb to the top ! I hope SD has a good season but remembers you play the first season to reach the second . Not sure what kind of team Riverheads will have but my guess is they will be in practice on Thanksgiving . Again!!! Just because someone beats Riverheads, the best team to ever step on a football field at any level in any year, does not mean that is their Super Bowl. You are still showing your bitter about the game last year by continuing to degrade SD. And bringing up what was maybe a 15 second clip of the end from the End zone lol O let me guess, that's the only way you know what happened, you stayed home?

And again with your celebrating stuff. So there are 2 teams, both 9-0, and rivals who play the last game of the regular season. Had SD not won they would have also slipped in seed for playoffs, but anyway these 2 teams play in the exact same manner as the game last year with one of the better games I've ever seen, and Riverheads wins the game, your are actually saying the team and fans dont celebrate. That is one of the more asinine things I've heard in my life. And then to top it off SD plays a team better than anyone Riverheads played (not someone they best by 40 points) and because SD lost the game by a point in the last 10 seconds by the 2a player of the year, that was because they beat Riverheads. You should try just having pride in your team and talking about them instead of putting down all others for no reason other than losing a game or rivalry. You have managed to put down SD and Wilson and their girls in this thread.

@longtimerhsfan You are a good poster with good talk and respect. You represent Riverheads on here very well along with a few others, but your buddy doesn't and I'm not only one saying that and posts on here are taking like posts of some other infamous posters. Like you said you were pulling for SD as I was pulling for Riverheads in the playoffs, he can't get over games in the past that Riverheads lost

I can't understand how you can be this unsmart. So your logic is I have a sore because Stuart's Draft beat Riverheads? Yea, that sounds logical. Or I have a sore because Stuarts Draft lost to Richlands, meaning they lost to a better team than Riverheads or lost to a much better team than Riverheads faced? You are so delusional than you think that I or anyone else cares that much about Riverheads as to be sore after BEATING them. O my, that win was soooooooooooooo hard to take. Now I have realized that I just cannot take dealing with the blinders anymore. So good luck to the best team of all time this year. Anyway, yes I was disappointed as I'm sure everyone was as most fans from other areas would be, but that wasn't the reason I replied. I feel it makes them stronger . They should never want to fail or feel that feeling again . I also do not agree with the every kid should get a trophy no matter what . I dont agree with the every child gets a trophy either, but even with the trolling you do, I just dont agree with kids being talked about negatively or badly. But atleast we have agreed on one point, we certainly will never agree on the right shade of red haha
