Pre VA Preps Rankings

I haven't given it much thought lately, but I'm not convinced that MV would me my #1. Without doing any recent studying, my gut tells me that JM is flying under the radar. I think I would probably have Lord Botetourt in my top 6-7. Park View has a favorable schedule. They could easily end up 9-1, only losing to Sussex.

Heritage has a darn good squad but I like the pieces MV returns. They had some freshman go toe to toe with Staunton River before Overstreet and company just overwhelmed them. With MV's lines, defense (which is going to be down right scary), and skill position players, I think they'll win #3 this year in Williamsburg. I think that JM will be a scary good team. I'd like to see them play MV for it all. Heritage will be in the thick of things but I have my doubts until they start playing the full 48 minutes. LB and SR will be very good as well. LB has massive lines and SR has Overstreet who is probably the best RB behind Walker from Hopewell in 3a.

It's hard to argue with anything you have said. I would differ only slightly with my top 5/6 at this point.
1-Heritage
2-Phoebus
3-Magna Vista
4-James Monroe
5- Lord Botetourt/ Staunton River

All 5 or 6 teams are very, very good. Hopewell will make some serious noise in the east. Of course, injuries or other issues can change things dramatically and there is always one or two teams that you least expect that make a great run.

1- Heritage- They have a boatload of seniors, with Anderson and Davis in the backfield. Plus I think they added the northside transfer. Most of the games they lost last year were pretty close.
2- Staunton River- they return Tester, Overstreet, and Jones. This one is kinda of a toss up, because they did lose some components to making that offense run, and some key players on defense. Just depends on how well their next men up fill in. All depends on that line blocking!
3- Magna Vista- Healthy Chris Scales will make this team great. They should be fast, and big on defense. Very young last year on defense, and they did get hit with the injury bug. They will be tested early with DR, JF and Reidsville.
4- James Monroe- Dont know much about JM, just they have a good coach, and are in the mix every year. I think out of the east they best Phoebus and Hopewell.
5- Phoebus/Hopewell/Brookville- I know Phoebus and Hopewell will finish with only 1 to 2 losses, but I just think there are more west teams better than they are. Brookville will return a really good QB, just dont know about his supporting players yet.
Like newleather said though, injuries can play a big part in each of these teams.

Magna Vista has a benefit game at Salem this year on the 18th. I'll let you know what I think then. They are always a good test and will be a good warmup for the year.

Is the benefit game gonna be just mv/Salem or is there gonna be another team like last year with brookville there?

Last year Magna Vista and Brookville scrimmaged with Salem 2 weeks before the 1st game. This year they are split up. We'll scrimmage Brookville 2 weeks before and then the following week we'll have a benefit game with just Magna Vista at SS. Should be exciting and be a good warmup for the season.
