My prediction is that West Potomac will win the Region C Playoffs. Before you immediately rush down to the comments and complain that I'm favoring my team, stretching their actual strength because of one good game and being generally unrealistic, read the post first and then we can argue.
First, these are my predictions for the seedings coming into the tournament
1: Robinson
2: South County
3: Lake Braddock
4: Fairfax
5: West Potomac
6: West Springfield
7: Mount Vernon
8: Alexandria
This relies on two things happening; West Potomac beating West Springfield on Friday, and Mount Vernon winning out against Hayfield and Falls Church. Both of these I think are likely occurrences.
First Round
Robinson beats Alexandria City
Frankly, no surprises here in this matchup. Robinson's been pretty dominant all season, and a rough streak for the Titans in region games, including 4 straight (probably 5 straight) losses against good teams. AC's an easy team to predict because they've been pretty consistent throughout the season. I'll give this game Robinson by 17
South County beats Mount Vernon
This one is easy because it's been played before this season, and let's just say MV had exactly no chance in that game, losing 52-7 despite allowing less than 300 yds of offence to the Stallions. Stallions by 28
Lake Braddock beats West Spring field
This one is more interesting. West Springfield may show some surprises in the playoffs, and I'll have a better feel for them once I see them at West Po on friday, but for now at least I'm going to go with the team that almost beat Robinson if not for a late-game collapse. Lake Braddock by 10
West Potomac beats Fairfax
This is the upset pick. These two teams have played before, ending in a 34-14 loss for the Wolverines, but coming off momentum from AC and South County, and hopefully WS and maybe even Robinson, this is a new team coming into the regionals. This game will be decided by who controls the turnovers, as West Potomac turned the ball over twice in the red zone, and Fairfax went mostly turnover free. Stopping the run should be West Potomac's priority on defense, as that was where the majority of Fairfax's yards came from. It's a tall order, but so was South County, and the Wolverines will be looking for revenge. West Potomac by 4
Second Round
West Potomac beats Robinson
This game will be a lot easier to read after the game on 11/5, but I'll pick the underdog again. The Wolverines have been pretty stellar on defense, allowing more than 21 points just once over 8 games. Against South County, the line was constantly in the backfield and allowed just 37 rushing yards from South County. Robinson's offense won't be as easy to slow down, but Stamos, Ampem, and Annor are a triple threat for defensive playcalling to deal with and this will be a tough team to bring down. West Potomac by 3
South County beats Lake Braddock
Yeah SoCo lost to West Po, but that doesn't mean that even with a perfect guide to stopping the Stallion running game and moving around the defense means that other teams can replicate the Wolverine offensive and defensive prowess they showed in Lorton last Friday. South County was previously untouchable, and I don't expect that to change because of one game. That being said, anything can happen, and the game on 11/5 will be a good indication of how this game will go. Lake Braddock has looked pretty strong so far, but I don't expect them to turn the tide on one of the strongest teams in the state. South County by 10
Championship
West Potomac beats South County
They did it before, so why can't they do it again? This is where one finds out who has the better coach. Both teams laid it all out last Friday, so both teams know each other's strengths. Can South County figure out how to counter the Wolverines trifecta, and can West Po react to the impending changes and stay strong? Those will be the questions for these two teams if this region championship battle occurs. As for the game; West Potomac by 3
