Question about Rapp boys

If the rumors are true there has to be a quick solution and corrective discipline.

Did a Rapp player punch another player last night? It's also rumored that he put threats on social media directed to players of another team? If this is truly the case there need to be provisions made in regards to the anger issues displayed. Being a former social worker the last thing we need to do is condone this behavior. There need to be stiff penalties but we need to find help before we lose this kid.

We have a civic duty to try and get in front of this immediately. Behavioral experts have several options that can be utilized if needed. I hope that what is being spread are only rumors. And that it's not program wide. (Recent incident with Colonial Beach)

Is this really the platform to address this? They have rules in place for these things which is a 2 game suspension. This is not the 1st time a punch has been thrown in a basketball game smh

What is the platform then? This is a very serious situation. Life is more than sports.

I'm well aware of vhsl rules, I've been involved with several rules clinics. And you are correct this is not the 1st time a punch was thrown. However, this is the 1st time a clear pattern of anger is displayed. I do believe this is an isolated event but nonetheless it needs to be handled swiftly.

Sir the officials lost control of the game & both teams were heated with no call on hard fouls on both ends of the floor. Both teams lost a player to an ejection & the rule is 2 games for both players. Stop trying to say Rapp kids have a problem. All kids make mistakes on & off the court.

What should be handled swiftly? The rule goes into effect when it happens so Im not quite sure what you mean. Just say you hope the kid cant play anymore bc it gives your team a better shot vs Rapp if he doesnt play. Dont try to act like you know a kid based on "rumors" & 1 incident. The same kid played all last year now he has a pattern? doesnt make sense if you ask me.

I won’t speculate on the game about punches being thrown last night since I wasn’t there... But that is the rumor going around. As far as the social media comments by the player, those did happen for sure. And I agree, there should be stiff penalties. Because what this obviously shows is a pattern of negative behavior, and this will not be the last time it happens. Maybe if the penalty was stiffer when the social media comments originally came out, last nights incident would not have taken place? Who knows. But I go back to my opinion that we need make the kids take more accountability for their actions. Kids get away with a lot nowadays because people are scared to hurt their feelings, trying to be politically correct, or someone wants tip toe around the issue or tries to minimize it. Well that obviously isn’t a good solution. And I’m of the opinion that no one person should be placed above the team whether their actions hurt the overall team or not. Because if you were a team player, you’re make decisions in the best interest of the team. If you allow one person on the team to run wild, what does that say to everyone else in the program. If a coach, program, or administration set a precedent for allowing kids to get away with something like that, it only creates long term issues for when the problem comes up again. Or, even worse, if the same kid continues with the behavioral patterns that should have been corrected for early on. You hear it all the time, “he was a good athlete, but had an attitude problem.” Maybe with some help, they could be good athletes and even better young men overall. So I agree with you 100%. Part of sports is trying to groom players into better young adults as well. It’s not just about who won the game. That’s not the only predictor of success at the end of the season.

Why was Rapp without two players?

Your irrational but I will say this....Make sure you keep that same energy bc when you start to talk about social media, its plenty of rumors about what a lot of NNK kids post on there accounts.

And related to the whole topic of social media in general, it’s not just a NNK kid issue, it’s an issue anywhere/everywhere. I think the problem is kids forget that what they post can have real consequences. The excuses of “it was a mistake” or “I didn’t know” are not always going to fly. I warn kids all the time about being careful what you put online. Once you hit send, you can’t take it back.

Wizard, I appreciate your opinion and I am in no insinuating any kid has a problem. I am however because of my profession, trained to follow keys and signs. And there are glaring warnings here. I do agree that the officials have become somewhat detrimental by not controlling the game. They let emotions flare all to often and it then becomes to late to defuse.

Nnda, let me start by saying this. I am what you would call a "come here" I did not graduate nor did any of my kids graduate from any northern neck school. I found this area through an advisory committee that I was on through the Chesapeake bay foundation. I fell in love and returned once my kids were grown. Obviously, you're a Rapp parent, coach, alum or all of the above. In either case I did not post to bicker or offend. I simply identified a situation and wanted more clarity.

I see alot hate for Rappahannock on here. So when W&L, Northumberland & Essex had player's ejected they all should be done for the season. Rules are in place by VHSL to handle discipline on the court.

The problem with several of the situations that have been discussed is that we’re getfing into areas that are now beyond the court or after the games. I agree that some of this is happening because officials are letting it go too far while on the court. And then the tempers flare, and now parents, admin and everyone else has to deal with the aftermath.

Oh by the way W&L team came off the bench when the punch was thrown. None of Rapp kids came off the bench . So the eagles bench should miss two games also.

Ahh there it is! The W&L dig. Unfortunately for you Wizard, this isn’t true. Both teams remained on their respective benches. But good attempt at trying to justify Rapps behavior.
