Last week when we had a very special honorary captain, the White Hat convinced him to flip the coin. Afterwards, the White Hat had another special commemorative coin in his pocket that he gave the Captain. All this was unplanned and spontaneous. I was quite impressed.

Is it not uncommon for a White Hat to come prepared to provide a keepsake if the need arises?

Interesting question. I have no idea of other guys have coins they'd give away in a similar situation. I've had a few honorary captains over the years and in most of those cases, it was pre-arranged that the captain would flip the coin and twice they had a commemorative coin with them.

I never really considered giving away my coin, but I suppose if the situation arose, I'd do it.

The coin I use now is one created by my association so i guess it might be viewed as a keepsake. For years I used an Eisenhower silver dollar, but that disappeared a while back. I wish I had that back and I doubt I'd give it away.
