I noticed a death notice in today's Richmond Times Dispatch for someone from Mill Gap. I had heard of the place, but other than knowing it was in SWVa I didn't recall where it was. Long story short, after finding it on Google Earth, I was wandering around looking at different places and came across Pennington Gap. I noticed no high school appeared on the map. I was thinking that there was, or had been a PGHS. Further checking, I see that PGHS was merged with "?" in about 1989.

My question is which school absorbed Pennington Gap? Does anybody remember much about the PG football history?

(Incidently, the only difference I see between Mill Gap and Poole Siding, [where I live], is that the country store is still open in Poole Siding. Both places literally have the highway sign for both directions on the same pole.)

Here we go. Just found this.

HistoryEdit

Founded in 1989, Lee High School was formed by consolidating Jonesville High School, Dryden High School, Keokee High School, Flatwoods High School and Pennington High School. Some of the schools had enrollments dropping under 200 students, leading the district to duplicate services between small schools (making advanced classes with smaller enrollments difficult to offer). Athletic opportunities were strained at the very small schools.
