Rapp completely dominating the game, Adams doesn't seem to be living up to the hype. On the other hand, Gaines is looking like a well oiled machine
uvacavs1, this lost could benefit you I would not worry about other teams you are going to the playoffs as a top tier program be proud of that. As you stated the focus is to be better and finish the season on a high note. I do question not having your best player at qb ( Palmer) arguably the best individual playmaker in 1a, he should touch the ball as much as possible to give you guys the best opportunity to win. Again, all credit to Rapp. I can only speak for myself, I underestimated them. I saw Rapp play v West Point and maybe that was not a good indication of Rapp's strength or WP is really good.
So NHS defeats the old powers - Essex, W&L, and CB but loses to the new one, Rapp. Hey makes it interesting. Rapp was fired up the whole game and NHS seemed not that interested - not sure why. It happens.
Better not underestimate LHS (or 6-1 Northampton).
And why would we be more pumped than Rappahannock. That was Rapp’s victory, not ours. It’s not like Essex needed Rapp to win for us to get in the post season.
I was being facetious. Obviously, Rapp is more excited and they should be.
However, I can assure you that Essex wants a piece of the NND title and needed Rapp to win to have a chance at it.
Now I am wondering - who is the better overall player? Gaines or Dameron.....
Even if Essex didn’t have a shot at getting a piece of the NND title, it wouldn’t of been a big deal. When you’ve been there and done that multiple times over the years, not getting it every now and then is no big deal. Not being cocky...just being honest.
I think for a program like Essex, targets are set on Regional and State championships. Winning the district on the way is just a bonus. But not winning the district does not interfere with their opportunity to win in November/December.
Now if there were only 4 teams allowed in (District champs, or in next year's case district champs +1 "wildcard") then winning the district would be the first goal because it would be necessary in their ultimate goal.
I will say
The NND is probably one of the only district to get a true champion that should be excited about winning it. With so many mixed and weird districts you get KW winning the tidewater against WP and 3 forfeits. The Tri Rivers with 3A-1A teams, Bay rivers with 2A-4A schools playing 9 district games. The tiny Eastern shore district where you only need to beat 2 teams to win the district. So whoever wins the NND at least has something to celebrate.
Thanks @ HighestPoint. That’s what I was getting at. Back when you needed it to get in the post season (or that wildcard) it meant more. In these parts, it’s good for bragging rights now. Back then it was bragging rights and post season play. I remember schools in the Richmond area who went 9-1 in the regular season and didn’t make the playoffs because they didn’t win their districts under the old format.
Yeah, I like being able to value district titles, but that old format was garbage.
Remember when several fans from many local schools kept saying Northumberland was a one horse pony show or something like that?
NHS fans just responded yes Palmer is great but we have a whole team of good players.
Then I saw Rapp and the Gaines and Gaines show and said hold up? People wanted to talk bad about Palmer's teammates....
Many Raider fans took major issue with me saying Gaines was the show (I even said Gaines did it with his team helping and with a good D).
Rappahannock scored 28 points -Rapp's KJ Gaines ran for two touchdowns and passed for the other two touchdowns. Gaines even caught a 20 yard pass on a big drive. He had no turnovers.
In addition, Gaines passed for 121 yards and ran for another 108 yards.
Rapp has a very good team, very impressive. Well coached.
However, Northumberland's Palmer is also a star yet in their 8 wins this year, he did not dominate any of them by himself like Gaines did.
