August 8 Deadline to request an appeal (post appeals the next day)

August 15 Deadline to submit an opposition to an appeal (post appeals the next day)

August 23 Appeal Committee meets to hear appeals and recommend the final alignment plan to the Executive Committee for 2023 – 2027.

I guess it’s D2’s turn now to take them. I’d assume many felt the same about John Marshall in basketball
I suppose. But D2 is getting a raw deal with JM, LCA and Maggie Walker now also. Kinda sucks for D2 in all sports seasons now.

Does LCA still compete in Lacrosse? I always thought there were a few sports they played that Division 2 did not offer

LCA will appeal to the VHSL to play in class 3 and appeals are due 8 Aug. VHSL will allow them play in class 3. When all said an done, LCA won't be 2A, they will be 3A

Thoughts on why they will/would?

Comfort in level of competition and district play, etc. The lower they go in competition, it could hurt their recruiting brand to attract kids. Guys like Scruggs from Appo, T. Copeland, Bradshaw and Allen from Graham are already dinged in recruiting ranking because recruiting services put lots of weight on classification/competition level. I don't think LCA would want to drop further in classification at least in football. Other sports might be different. Time will tell though.

I fully agree with you in the recruiting aspect that it makes them less desireable for an athlete. Far as that goes the inverse would be more desireable for the school to go back to class 4.

I know what i'm going to ask is not a good metric to gauge things by but i am curious. Has enrollment at Liberty University fallen off? I'm wondering about all the bad publicity due to Jerry Jr and staff issues along with rape issues if this has hurt enrollment. We all know LU and LCA are only different entities on paper only so i'm curious about the latest numbers showing a drop at LCA and if related to the issues i mentioned.

Coach Rocco doesn't care about what classification they're in as long as they're in VHSL.

I know someone that works in admissions at LU and they're numbers have actually skyrocketed over the past two years because they have had so few restrictions related to Covid.

What's going on with Radford? That has to be an error in the calculations, correct?

2022 ADM (9-11) = 562 (largest proposed Class 2 school)
2020 ADM (9-12) = 495
2018 ADM (9-12) - 505

Something seems a bit.....off!

Raddy's number are a misprint. 562 is 9 through 12. Last year's senior class had 140 students. We had 135 juniors in last year's junior class, so there's no way we are above 600 students 9-12. The growth from 500ish to 562 is right though. Blacksburg has 1191 in 2018 9-12, and in 2022, grades 9-11, they are at 1024, which would mean they are about 1360 grades 9-12 which is growth from 1191 to 1360 grades 9-12 since 2018.

NEWS: VHSL Region Alignment: The Appeals

ALERT: @VHSL_ releases appeals to 2023-27 Region Alignment.

@ccpsinfo requests all ten County schools be placed together in one group.

New Mecklenburg HS requests move down to Class 4, Region D from Class 5, Region C, while Albemarle requests the opposite....

@MLWGS requests to stay in #Region3B instead of moving to 2A.

@CAVSofCHS request stay in #Region3B instead of moving to 4B

@DRathletics and @GAJagAthletics both request to stay in #Region5C instead of moving up to #Region6A....
EPJr, do you have the full list or link from the VHSL for all appeals filed? I can't find it on the website?

Kudo's to LCA for requesting to stay in class 3. Didn't see that one coming but it is only fair for sure.

Hard to believe that Riverheads is appealing to drop back to class 1.

One of two reasons for the RH appeal probably. Either the travel time required for class 2B, or they like dominating class 1.

I don't think it's the first reason as Stuarts Draft is right next to them and plays in 2B.

To me you look at their 1A region outliers for travel 130 miles roughly to Lunenburg, 159 miles to Sussex Central, 160 to Surry, 182 to Franklin

2A correct me if I am wrong but is Buckingham the furthest at 77 miles?
