"Lancaster easily moved to the second round of postseason play Monday night with a 38-point victory over Rappahannock, 61-23, in a Region 1A boys basketball quarterfinal.

The Red Devils were scheduled to play Middlesex, a 62-54 winner over Northampton, in a semifinal game on February 23. Washington & Lee beat Essex, 75-44, and West Point defeated Mathews, 57-31, in the other quarterfinal games.

The winners of the W&L versus West Point and Lancaster versus Middlesex games will meet at 6 p.m. Friday, February 25, in the regional championship. The game will be at the higher seed. Lancaster is the number one seed in the region and a win against Middlesex will have the Devils hosting.

The state tournament will begin Friday, March 4, at the higher seeds. Both the region champion and runner-up advance".
